Not selling but just wondering if it is worth more than I still owe on it?

Thinking of insurance valuations as I MAY galvanise chassis it

2003 ES 5 seat auto
105000 miles
Dynachip remap
FF CDL
SLS
ACE
FF Satnav
Cruise
Chassis looks OK

Discoveries are not really appreciating in value, especially D2's which are known to corrode rear chassis like there's no tomorrow. Knowing this, I'd either sell ASAP, or fix/swap the chassis as you say (If you're keeping it) and keep it in good fettle.

I owe less

But is that all!

I bought an 04 MY 130K GS model with Cruise , last week.

Body in excellent condition.
No SLS, which for me is a no cost delta either way.
No ACE, which I personally would not choose to have.
Cruise.
No CDl, but then not needed.
Full service history to 114K.
Good chassis, with a small repair done to the rear chassis.
No sunroofs, again a bonus.
Some minor issues that are being fixed , so all in total cost for the car , full service , new MAF and fuel pump is about the same as that estimate.

You add on what you think the delta between the two is. My POV is if you are looking for a car that HAS those items fitted you are either going to wait until hell freezes over or be very lucky, or you will buy the first decent one you see and either add the missing components or live without.

Cheers

Anyhow, as you say you are looking at insurance values and fitting a Galv chassis.

Last time I looked D2 galv chassis are stupidly expensive. ( 3.5K to 4K without fitting.). Add this in to my estimate and you are going to be asking for an insurance valuation of 3K+ 3.75K + Fitting fee ( I would very conservatively say 2K for that as a starting point ). Valuation is now getting close to 9K. But then if you ever wanted to sell it by normal means I think a snowball has a better chance in hell than you would of ever getting your money back.

Cheers

I'd say they're getting in 'modern classic' territory now, in that they have a following and are worth far more to the owners than to the 'market'. You see many such examples at classic car meets, beautifully turned out bread and butter cars like early base level Escorts or Golfs that cost far more to restore than than anyone would pay on the open market for them. You do them up or simply keep them going because you like them, not because they're valuable.

My 04 D2 Commercial (Van) no ACE, no AC, no sunroofs, no back seats!
With 210,000 miles on it.
Went for £2700 with 12 months MOT and no advisories.
Condition is the key to getting a good price.
BTW The value of classics is very variable, Im looking at getting a Winter project, 1966 MGB GT, wire wheels etc, decent condition,
and its only £1800!

Prices have dropped quite a bit in 4 years then!

Assuming you mean the D2 prices?
I noticed when I was looking for a D3 nearly 3 years ago how much people were asking for late D2 models, for pretty much the same money you could have a D3, even daft as a brush me could see the D2 was going to price drop dramatically.

Just had a quick look on ebay some people are still asking strong money for late low mileage D2

There is a member on here paid 7.5K for a late low mileage apparently in excellent condition D2 Td5 6 months ago. People will pay it , if that is what they want.

Cheers

I gave £5k for mine last July from a dealer with 3 months warranty.
2004 pursuit on rear coils with good history and 86k miles. Don't think I paid over the odds but could've got one cheaper privately

Well so long as they are happy with their car thats all that matters.
I paid 12k for my 06 D3 3 yrs ago from a dealer, kind of sounds cheap now?

have noticed there are a lot more D3 coming on the market at reasonable money , looks as though the D4 s are holding there value as people don't want the D5

i looked for ages for a D2 , even thought about getting one cheap for a chassis swap but then when adding it all up it didn't make sense

then alas my D3 project landed on my lap so went with that , also seen D3 s being sold a lot cheaper if the belts are due , plenty of bargains to be had, but of course as we both know have to be very cautious and what to look for
