Steering guard varieties - Advice please...

I've tried steering guards, got fed up with them either causing the front to lift in mud and snow meaning loss of traction, or when reversing out dragging so much into them I get stuck!! I then went to Sumo bars and never looked back. I have now bought one of these LAND ROVER DEFENDER...

    Steering

Before you get totally slammed, maybe a bit of a "Hi there, i'm so and so, I drive a ??? etc etc before coming straight in with a request for help. Also the search function is usually really helpful!! Is this a Tdi or a Td5?? Things like this don't normally just "give way" There is...

    what landy is this?

Sounds like something interesting? I remember reading somewhere about some 2 wheel drive Landrovers done as staff cars for the military, so you may be right, however what makes you think it should be Tax exempt? The military also had series III's of which very few were tax exempt.

how many miles do you get to a full tank?

I'd say its the other way!! My 200, even on muds, roof light bar, winch etc still returns me 29 mpg, but my 300 on road biased (Cooper ATR's) rarely does better than 25 mpg!

Whats your favourite music to listen to in your Land Rover?

Hugely varies. This morning as I set off it was Spring from Vivaldi's 4 seasons, then came ACDC with Hells Bell closely followed by Christy Moore, Eric Bogle, Zeppelin Stairway to heaven, Bon Jovi, Dolly Parton, The Bluebells with Young at Heart, Big Country, Glen Cambell and as I parked up...

    Stabilising bar Mount

I guess it really depends on how good a welder / fabricator your brother is?? If he rebuilds it onto good metal to look like the factory job and has bloody good welds then yes, it'll be safe, but if he does a half arsed job like it sounds the previous repairer did then no!!

    Steering wheel wobble

LOL, thats inside Landrover tolerences I reckon?? I had a mate that measured his wheelbase on his 110 of 1989 vintage, it was a whole inch shorter one side, but the vehicle tracked true and straight with no adverse handleing and no uneven tyre wear!!

    yet another stupid ABS question

Yes they are, but if they don't have the proper kit then they don't (or at least my tester doesn't!! ) In fact, I've asked around round the area and out of 20 MOT stations round here NO ONE!! has the proper kit to put in the boot! I've not noticed the single blink? As said above I had a...

    yet another stupid ABS question

Do you?? I assume you are talking about a 300 here? In which case the ABS light comes on when started, but does not go out till 5 mph. The MOT is a static test. Therefore "in theory" the tester cannot fail you for the light not going out (unless he is a clever bugger that puts a...

Check my post on the other brake thread you have running, sounds very like the same as my issues.

    yet another stupid ABS question

Sounds like a previous owner may have had probs and rather than deal with it they have just removed the bulb!! It may be a sensor issue, I've had this recently with mine and it turned out to be the front O/S sensor. The symptoms were sometimes when I pressed the brake (didn't matter soft or...

    It's Monday again!

You say that like we don't know!! The crucual part is that the vehicle you have is NOT as old as this!! Its a ringer, that is illegal. Check all the replies so far, what you are doing is breaking the law and avoiding TAX. When revenue and customs catch you they will sieze the vehicle and...

    Winches - Electric or hydraulic?

Hydaulic winches are undoubtably impressive pieces of kit, but they are more expensive to set up I believe. You would need the winch to start with which are more expensive than electric. Then you would also need the pump, piping etc etc etc. and should your engine fail, you have no winch...
