The mount that the rear stabilising bar goes onto on my Disco 1 is f*cked basicaly.

The stabilising bar going from the y peice to the chassis at rear of chassis,

The chassis part of it had rotted away and it looks like someone has tryed to repair it and made a total balls up of it, they welded a part of it with a plate to the chassis, but also welded the plate to the stabilising bar as well which has made the stabilising bar rigid as it hasnt allowed the stabilising bar move with the mount basicaly cause its been welded,

Anyway as I say, total balls up of a job,

My brother is going to repair it the best he can, he is getting a 12 mm bit of plate made to weld onto the chassis to put the stabilising bar back on,

Hoping someone can give me some advice on wheather or not its safe repairing this, want to use the disco for offroading as well as an every day runabout.

Cheers in advance

I guess it really depends on how good a welder / fabricator your brother is??

If he rebuilds it onto good metal to look like the factory job and has bloody good welds then yes, it'll be safe, but if he does a half arsed job like it sounds the previous repairer did then no!!

Brother is a good welder. I will give him that,

He was out in it the other day and he just felt it wasnt right, checked it out as he felt as though the rear axle was steering sort of thing,

thats when he noticed it was f*cked,

Do you know if you can buy the mount for the stabilising bar that goes to the chassis, ?

Just dont want him spending hours welding it up if its going to be a waste of his time,

As surly this must be a stress point on the disco,

Cheers for your reply Mac

Dales.

a good welder will make it stronger than the origional.....just need to use heavy enough material and go back far enough to get summit solid to weld to.

Cheers for the link Mac.

Gave the guy a call but he dosnt do the part I was looking for,

Brother has got a bit made up so hopefully that will do the job ok.

Again thanks for the info, much appreciated.

The plate he has got made up Ricc is 12 mm thick so should be strong enough,

He has ground it back to good metal too.

I think he is going to do it when he finishes work tonight,

But he has come across more welding, lol
