Bearing spigot has sheared off end of diff.

Personally I suspect the diff broke first that caused the CWP failure but hard to say.

Either way it now means I have a broken obsolete air locker aswell as CWP job.

ive seen most types of diff failure but not that

I'm thinking it's lucky that it is this end that has broken because it is simpler, the other end contains all the air gubbins.

Hopefully it can be replaced, might be the same as a later unit or obtainable otherwise, no way of knowing tonight.

Have washed swarf out of diff and stripped everything else down and washed out, all bearings etc are good and will probably reuse

Have been speaking to nige at MS regards pegging and will see what he makes of this latest problem

So far, breakage list is:

Crown wheel and pinion
ARB end plate
Copper air feed pipe to ARB
Gasket and seal kit

It all rides on whether I can get that end plate as to how expensive it will be.

Basically the CWP got lunched yesterday and it happened so quickly and easily I literally had no idea that something could have gone wrong, was on tickover in first but 3x diffs locked

Could it be possible somehow that the diff spigot had sheared already and then that's why it didn't take much to shift it and do the CWP or has this simply broken off from loading up the CWP so much?

Any ideas?

Just nige at MS said to me that of course something could have been already waiting to let go and then the first touch of hard work did the CWP, but I can't see it being drive able with the broken spigot, not for 60 mile up the motorway either!
 
very weird place to go, might be the case that the 24 spline plate fits as the diffs are essentially the same just the splined parts
 
Yeah the trouble is this is the RD03 which shares it's components with I think the RD26 both of which are discontinued and replaced with a new model in both 10 and 24 spline variants

These are the ones with the plastic cage inside

Anyway.

Fingers crossed I can source the part otherwise I'm wallet shafted :(

Urm, dropped into a small hole and was driving though it went to climb out and bing bong bang bing it didn't sound good!

Wasn't on any throttle so it's all a bit weird!

Sam ive got a 10 spline arb just the same, not sure if its the other end thats gone mind

Maybe the early 10 spline was a bad design?

This is the RD03 which is same as RD26 24 spline.

This was replaced by RD127 10 spline.

Hopefully the other end has gone on yours!
 
i bought it of e bay as damaged, thought it would be repairable, was going to get a mate to make a new end, its sitting in the garage

If you get a part number, have a look on Amazon.com .. when I needed bits for the Warn winch, _everywhere_ literally UK and USA were selling parts at high prices and astronomical delivery.

Part in UK £124 + £50 delivery (had to be ordered)

Part in USA £110 + £75 delivery ...

Amazon part £66 ('proper' Warn) delivered within 3 or 4 days .. including free sticker and 20% off next Amazon order!!!

Worth a try for any American parts ... some of the distributors have excellent terms with couriers due to high throughput, whereas specialist firms don't have the volume to get low cost distribution.

Might also be worth trying Amazon.au, the Aussies also have great distribution networks and a very high ARB presence.

Rang Ashcroft and part is discontinued.

However, place on amazon claims to have 3 in stock and polyperformance in US claim to have some too.

Just holding out on Tim otherwise will get one ordered!

Tempted to buy 2 but will spend money on pegging instead! :D
