I only mentioned the edc situation is because that is what I did, mine is a 96 and was showing edc advanced, me knowing better changed it to edc, plus a couple of other changes, then it wouldn't start, just turned over, reversed each change one by one until it started, it was the edc setting, but for sure a flat battery will always be bad news, remember that if you go to halfords they will price match anything you can find online, so got to the store, look at what brands they have then google the same using the shopping tab, works a treat.
If it's one with a five year warranty from Halfrauds they charge you for two batteries first off just in case. NOT a place to buy batteries from.

I am assuming your car is diesel, if it's 95/96 then should be EDC, if it's late 96 to 02 then it should be EDC advanced.

If it runs I'd just leave it alone. I tried changing mine and it stopped working so I changed it back. From memory it was early or late EDC as options but I might be mixing it up with something else.
If battery is draining then check the RF receiver if you haven't already.
As Datatek said, you need 14V or more @ 2000 rpm from the alternator for the calcium battery. My '95 DT only has 13.8V. I'm not sure if that' because of the age or the fact it is the bottom of the range without so many gadgets on it.

I posted a question on the nanocom forum and they told me that this nanocom unit should never be used with out a power supply plugged in.
They say it draws to much power from the battery and then it does not read or write the settings correctly
So me thinks a trip down to maplins is in order

Nanocom and the much bigger Faultmate Extreme work fine just plugged into the OBD connector as long as the battery is good and you don't play for hours.

Well with my big bessy I guess your right. The guys over the pond have a very long thread on the problems using this unit without a power supply even with a good battery. Some of it is hard to read. And they have told the makers of the unit to supply a power supply with the unit. And put a voltage Meter on the display of the unit.

The lads over the pond only have petrols with poxy little batteries installed, no problems on the diesels. If the battery is anything like ok that is.
