X-Defend Defender Pedal Lock... Worth it at £170?

Has anyone used one of these pedal lock jobbies?

There are other options on the market, some at half the price, but the X-Defend remains 'fitted' even when not in use, so there's no issue with storage - barely get a tool kit in my truck cab! £170 is a fair lump of cash, but if it does a decent job, then what price for peace of mind?

Anyone got feedback, or an opinion, before I spend another pile of money with Paddock Spares!
 
I think they are great, but sadly don't fit a Series. Yes they are pricey I guess, but it's a one off payment. How much does you insurance cost you, or how much would your excess be?

The other Defender pedal locks are massive, not sure where you could keep them in the vehicle. Which means you might buy it, use it for a few weeks then say sod it and leave the lock in the garage/shed. Which kinda defeats the object.

I'd say, if you can afford the X-Eng one, then it's a no brainer. :)
 
I would say the downside is you cant have a floor mat unless you are prepared to fit and remove it each time you use the lock, other downer would be if no mat and you have muddy/wet boots it will be a tad slippery?
 
I fitted one to my 90 back in 2012.

Locked.

Very easy to use as it is always in place and there is no storage issue.
I don't do carpets or mats but I can see it would be an issue if you did.

Initially I removed it soon after fitting as I disliked the feel of the hinge under my feet (went back to the tried & trusted Clutch-Claw) but I kept it in a cupboard and decided to re-fit it 12-months later. I stuck with it and now don't notice it.

There is a flaw to them (which I discovered almost straight away) but it is not obvious and of course there is no way I am going to mention it on a forum or even send it out via a PM, I am sure that it can be overcome but I haven't given it much thought.

Personally I would say go for it.

Litch what exactly does the top of the X plate lock onto as I cant see anything in your pic?

What is the vin plate thing on the end of the seta box for?

I reckon might just be the tidiest defender I have seen the inside of.
 
I've got one fitted and floor Mat you don't have to take the mat out if you use a bit of common sense..part of a layered security system and I think with its location and ease of use you are more likely to use it every time .had one fitted for two years well worth it .

The vin plate thing is the ministry of defence contract plate - has all the vehicle details on it, only fitted to MoD land rovers

There is a large claw that fully closes around the brake-pedal.
Even if you could free the plate from the base, you couldn't remove the plate from the pedal as when locked it fully encloses the pedal shaft.

As already stated, it is the data plate.
It is the only thing remaining that gives any clue to the fact that it is an ex-MOD vehicle.
 
I have one and it operates well....it is now a standard procedure/habit that I unlock before I get in as I cant bring it down once the door is closed...deploying it is simplicity itself......also useful to check the brake lights as the current positional set up of both plate and pedal presses on the brake pedal enough to set the brake light off with the ignition on....i'd say if you had the spare money buy it
 
Thanks for the opinions/feedback there guys - all very helpful.

Looking at how neat they are fitted, combined with the benefit of not having to lug a lump of metal about with me in the cab, I think I'll go for it. As mentioned, there are +ve's and -ve's, but as part of a multi-pronged approach to securing the car, they do seem to be worth the outlay.

Right, Visa card at the ready... again!
 
I got one a few weeks ago but i haven't got around to fiting it yet, I'm waiting until Iv fitted my wright off road matting system then I'm going to bolt it through that.
