Yeah, but whether it is spam or not do you still think it was a good idea?

Eh? - Do you know _anything_ about Usenet - if you did you wouldn't use
such a ****witted expression as 'when usenet first started'.

All that link proves is one site's definition of spam.

In reality, Spam is any unwanted posting advertising an inappropriate
product / service / site.

Advertising a Bulletin Board (and a **** one at that) on a Usenet group
could well be considered inappropriate, and therefore spam.

Cross posting to several groups is most definitely spam. I'm actually
surprised it got past the German server's spam filters - but they're not
what they used to be.

It's funny, isn't it, you've just popped up from nowhere advertising
your own site. No posting history to any of the groups I subscribe to,
but yet you saw fit to spam the groups with your website.

No-one is an admistrator, but some people posting to Usenet feel that
it's worth upholding the basic principles of the groups they subscribe
to.

Oh look, you can look up my address from my domain name. How clever.

Am I supposed to be scared or impressed?

Shame it's 5 years out of date.

I was miles ahead of you in this respect, but I know where to draw the
line when digging up personal info. on people, and wouldn't even dream
of posting stuff like that on usenet.

I concede that now I don't believe it was a good idea. I misjudged the
level of trolling.

Which can be easily translated:

'I didn't read any of the groups I cross posted my spam to'

its not particularly difficult to find my email address from the domain
and search google groups for previous posts is it? you also have 'a'
address from that which you would have had to do before even searching
google groups.

neither.

Heh.... see, this is the thing. It would be tolerated for you to post a
link to one of your crapfrenchcar.com sites as you're a regular poster
to the group. Someone who appears from no-where posting links to their
own site is just a spamming ****.

That's good enough for me. Hopefully I shall have no cause to say anything
more on the matter.

Trolling. Hmm, I believe that is a subjective term, without a proper
definition...

I have yet to see a spamvertised site which is worth looking at, yours
is no exception.

I suggest you take a look at your AUP then...

Now kindly do as you were asked, PO.

i disagree, i think subsilver is better than the trushkin theme. Also it
makes it more difficult to install mods which is obviously what the
webmaster of that site found out shown by the fact there arent any.

Oh and theres a bit of a security flaw with 2.0.6, you may want to
update to 2.0.10

Actually its a term I thought I made up on the spot, but thats generally
what it means. The self regulating nature of the system means that swearing
a lot and trying to be as offensive as possible stops people doing silly
things so much.

Lets use a bad car related analogy as these all seem to be car related
groups. Say, if you were a cyclist <spit> and I was in my car and I saw you
cycle up beside me at some traffic lights, ride through a red light, turn
right where there is a sign specifically stating such an action is
prohibited then mount the pavement at the other side of the road jauntily
and carry on your merry way I'd swear a lot at you and generally try to be
as unpleasant as possible, probably in the vain hope that you'd think twice
before pulling such an unbelieveably stupid manouvre again.

I'm not saying thats the morally right thing to do, but I'd probably still
do it, even if it happened only yesterday. (c:

Anyway, what did militant usenetter used to mean?

There are a number of very aggressive posters on the net... issue a heavily
cross posted post and you will inevitably get replies from some of them.

The best policy seems to be to ignore rude replies.

In other words " please don't feed the trolls ".

Being a coward, I am now going to run away, ( by adding this thread to my
kill file. )

Goodbye

Well havin to that with no prior experience was a little dodgy. Made a bit
of a balls up with the upgrade last nite and blitzed some of the mods,
should be fun tonight!
