Heh.... see, this is the thing. It would be tolerated for you to post a
link to one of your crapfrenchcar.com sites as you're a regular poster
to the group. Someone who appears from no-where posting links to their
own site is just a spamming ****.

i disagree, i think subsilver is better than the trushkin theme. Also it
makes it more difficult to install mods which is obviously what the
webmaster of that site found out shown by the fact there arent any.

Oh and theres a bit of a security flaw with 2.0.6, you may want to
update to 2.0.10

Actually its a term I thought I made up on the spot, but thats generally
what it means. The self regulating nature of the system means that swearing
a lot and trying to be as offensive as possible stops people doing silly
things so much.

Lets use a bad car related analogy as these all seem to be car related
groups. Say, if you were a cyclist <spit> and I was in my car and I saw you
cycle up beside me at some traffic lights, ride through a red light, turn
right where there is a sign specifically stating such an action is
prohibited then mount the pavement at the other side of the road jauntily
and carry on your merry way I'd swear a lot at you and generally try to be
as unpleasant as possible, probably in the vain hope that you'd think twice
before pulling such an unbelieveably stupid manouvre again.

I'm not saying thats the morally right thing to do, but I'd probably still
do it, even if it happened only yesterday. (c:

Anyway, what did militant usenetter used to mean?

There are a number of very aggressive posters on the net... issue a heavily
cross posted post and you will inevitably get replies from some of them.

The best policy seems to be to ignore rude replies.

In other words " please don't feed the trolls ".

Being a coward, I am now going to run away, ( by adding this thread to my
kill file. )

Heh. I know it's pathetic. I can't code HTML to save my life, but what I
do a lot of is taking photos. Which is all my 'site' is - just somewhere
to stuff photos for interested parties to look at.

He wouldn't know. His posting history amounts to a handful of posts 18
months ago, plus this spam.

When usenet first started I remember getting a bit disappointed with how
much it was going downhill, been away from it so long I had forgotten
why I didnt use it anymore. Thanks for reminding me.

The link proves what is and what isnt spamming, your own personal
opinion in this case means nothing I'm afraid.

I would say that I'm sure I've been around usenet longer than you but I
find cock competitions a little vulgar and also, how the hell would I
know how long you've been using it?

I didn't realise you are the administrator of the uk.rec. groups, now I
know that I'll comply with everything you say because you obviously have
more right to post here than I do.

See, if you'd have bothered to read any of the groups you spammed before
posting, then you'd have gained some sort of knowledge of what is and
isn't considered acceptable to the regulars.

Does being a militant usenetter mean you just swear a lot and try and be
as offensive as possible? It never used to be

That analogy would be correct if:

The cyclist was entitled to continue.
There was no sign.

A militant usenetter would have been someone who upheld the basic
fundamentals of usenet, not jumped on someone for posting a link to
their own non-commercial site, dealing with the same subject matter of
the newsgroup in question, which by all definitions of spam posted
anywhere on the internet apart from, it seems, uk.rec groups isnt spam.

You do realise this is against the charter of uk.rec.cars.maintenance,
don't you?

Oh, you didn't? - I somehow figured that might be the case.

Abuse report sent.

doh! you caught me out. i didnt actually click all of the links. perhaps
thats why people are getting upset, they think that they have to click
every link in a post otherwise the message turns into a virus?
