Wipers not working, but washers are

Another day another joy.

Todays issue - wipers not working, but washers are.

I first thought they were just stuck as it was -3*C outside this morning, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

My plan is to look at the following:

Fuses
Relay
Attempt to run power directly to motor

Before I stick my overalls on, as ever, any points in other directions much appreciated.

(Defender 90 1991 200 TDI)

The motor lives under the cover by the passenger door.
To get that off there are a few screws top and bottom and one hidden behind the oval badge on the jesus handle.

Use a volt meter to check for a voltage.
Quoite often the issue is that the motor bushes have worn.
First indication is that fast and slow speed doesn't make any difference.

Mine failed (yellow is very worn) and I changed the motor only to find out you can get new bushes (RTC198)

Does it have the same problem pressing down for single use. As you mentioned fuse and relay worth looking.

Yes. No action from the wipers regardless of how I press the stalk.

Good luck with that wiring.
It looks rather random on that added fuse box, do you know what any of that is for?

Ooo the glass fuses… make sure the contacts are clean. Even though the fuse looks good get an electrical meter & check both side of the fuse while it’s in place.

Any tips on how to identify what this additional fuse set is for? My assumption is “take one out and see what stops working”

Are there usual things people would wire into them?

Spot lights
Light bars
Radio
If you have some of these pull the fuses and see.

What other extras are there?

Wiper update - took the connector off the motor. Got caught for time so put it back on. Now they’re working

This thing baffles me sometimes.

Those blue "scotch block" connectors are awful things, little contact area that soon corrodes.

Connections go green/corrode. Clean them up & all will be good.

My son's tdi has glass fuses, almost all were wrong size when he bought it.
You are right the contacts need cleaning every now and again.

Hopefully then it's just a poor contact on the motor, clean them up.
I think sorting the additional fuse box should be on your to do list.

I'm told it's either the radio, or the reverse light. We shall see.
