Hi,

I have a 95 300 series diesel discovery with original alloys (7K 16x33) and 205/80R16 104s tyres. What I want is a larger/wider wheel/trye combo, what size can I go up to without fouling. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

Sorry forgot to mention that is a 12% difference in circumference so will alter gear ratios and speedo. Depends if you want just width or extra ground clearance as well.

Excuse my ignorance - can I put that tyre on my original rim? or do I need new wheels? if so what size?

Thanks

I thought you wanted to use your original rims, so yes the tyre sizes will fit your existing rims. With regard to new rims as well, tyre choice depends on what look you want i.e. big rims, low profile tyres or lots of height of rubber.

I suppose the look I'm after is that of the later series which seem to use a larger and wider tyre, is this the case or would I have to use spacers to get that look?

And thanks guys for talking me through this.

No problem to fit the 255/55 R18 of later Series II models but you can't use the wheels as different PCD unless you fit adapter plates which are best avoided. You could get an 18" wheel to fit your PCD and still go with the 255/55 R18 as they are no taller than the standard wheels only wider and should not affect your speedo. My brother-in-law has a new Disco III with 19" wheels and my series III tyres with 7.50x16 (235/85 R16) stand way taller.
