Had it towed to the bl**dy garage as the exhaust manifold is leaking and I haven't got the time to fix it myself!
 
Nothing. It's still in a local garage where it has now been for a month :mad: It's hopefully going to be sorted soon. But, this is the Republic of Ireland and things don't always happen too quickly :confused:. In Cornwall, jobs get done "drectly" (usually within a few days) here in Ireland, time doesn't feature in the equation. It's going to be done when it's done :D:p
 
Had a look at the fluid levels this afternoon and saw the oil looked a little high. I wonder if it is time for new injector seals (it's a TD5)? I shall keep an eye on it over the next few days. My TD5 seems to have the ability to hide and release around a litre of oil and the level on the dipstick fluctuates from day to day. I'll keep an eye on it to see if a steady upward trend develops.
 
Fitted a new nearside ride height sensor. I fitted a new one on the offside last week. Both were really knackered with bot bushes missing at the bottom and the plastic surrounding the bush split. Cable ties had been used to make sure they stayed on. Its a bit of a mystery as we have had the car ten years. It was four years old when we got it and nothing has been done with the air suspension while we have had it till this year. I noticed the nearside airbag had been changed.
 
Taken the gearbox out, again after the refurbished one has now started to not go in to second gear and also leak.

Not happy, but got it out in under 3 hours.
 
Trying to fit the Puma style fibre glass bonnet which has caused a few issues. The first problem was that the catch striker bolt which is bedded into the front of the bonnet, which was clogged with fibreglass resin. Finding the correct tap to clear out the crap was difficult.

The next part of the problem, was to get the striker catch to locate. It turned out that the fibreglass bonnet was broken which wouldn't allow the connection to be made.:eek:

I'm currently talking to the supplier who has been very good, but I don't relish the idea of getting a replacement. I live in Ireland and the supplier is in the UK. I have also had the bonnet painted and sound proofed, so would like to keep and repair the existing bonnet:rolleyes:

If it is Fibreglass and in an hidden area, then a fibreglass repair should be very simple, Hopefully you get it resolved fairly easily Alan.
The problem is, for a replacement, do you know where the damage happened? shipping, painting, etc?

Good morning Neilly and thanks for your support. The repair does look straight forward and I have sent the MD, of the Company which supplied the bonnet, images of the damage and proposed repair. I have also spoken to him on a number of occasions and he is, without doubt, a very reasonable guy who wants to make sure that I remain a happy customer.

I have no idea how the damage occurred but it is unlikely that it was in transit. I do feel that there is a design flaw which needs to be addressed by the manufacturer. The unit I have is double skinned, an a direct copy of the original. I suspect that the single skin version is much stronger around the area of damage.

I'm going to get verbal confirmation from the MD that he is happy for me to go ahead with the repair. If it doesn't work, I should then still be able to go back to him to discuss a replacement.

The stupid thing is that there was a genuine Puma bonnet for sale last week close to me for €230, about half the price I paid for the replica!

Sounds like a proper Landie part, In fact you are having to repair it even before it is fitted...... :p
Seems you have it all in order, hope it all goes well.
I do find it sad in this day and age , where, when I do find good customer service I find it surprising now. Sounds like the company involved are one of the good ones.

Been having a look round it as it'll need an MOT sometime this month or early next. The high oil level I noticed over a week ago hasn't got any higher but hasn't got any lower either. I siphoned a bit out and will keep an eye on it. I've done some long runs such as a trip to Wales and a trip to Nottingham - about 400 miles altogether - so if it was injector seals I think I'd have noticed it rising further by now. Lights, wipers and washers all working. I found a little movement in my front passenger side shock absorber bush, so cured that, and found a little play in the passenger side front wheel. Wheel off, I couldn't feel it, wheel on, I could. I couldn't work out whether it was a wheel bearing or steering swivel. Eventually I took the drive flange off and tightened up the bearing nut a few degrees and that seems to have sorted it. Even though I've got the later type with a single nut and a spacer, a few degrees of movement on the nut can make a difference to how tight the bearing feels. Also while the wheels were off I looked at the brake lines and calipers and they seem to be in good condition. New windscreen wipers and a bottle of injector cleaner in the tank. I think I've done pretty much all the preparation I can. I just need to have a final crawl around underneath to wobble all the suspension linkages and give it a good clean and that's it.
 
Managed to get an off cut of 3mm Aluminium plate which is about 18" X 12" for two Euro from a pal, after paying about £16 yesterday to import similar from UK:eek:. Started to cut down individual strips of the sheet, which i intend to laminate and fibreglass into the from to my damaged Puma style bonnet :D. Wife came home so I had to come in from play and will have to hold fire until tomorrow :rolleyes:
 
Laminating strips of my free 3mm aluminium plate and bonding them into the damaged front of my bonnet. That fibreglass resin is a pain in the... to get off the hangs when it goes off :mad:. My hands are like an old granny, well a very older than me granny. I decided to buy some rubber gloves like some mechanics wear! Feel like a bit of a FreeLander, but my hands might last for another few days:D
