FFS Nellie! Have ye bin trawlin' thru' the LZed archives or summit?

Today i have been mostly...

Fitting the new air box Si n Ratty found for me but am a bit worried the pipe is a bit close to the alternator so might have to get some cable ties out! It's all plumbed in and works fine but havent wired the intake end up to anything yet, as haven't got all the bits for the snorkel yet so the intake end is open (still way better protected than it was though.) It gave me the WHOOOSH back that became absent when the old air filter filled up with mud, along with extra associated va va voom!

Also refilled me leaky hub and greased the props. Steering PAS belt very squealy, is it too loose and where does it tighten?...or do i either need another or need to do the baby powder trick?

Refitted the drivers floor and the step. Also fitted two of my refurbished and freshly painted wolf wheels together with new tyres, luverly:D

started the lift kit 2day, took about an hour to do one side on the rear then took me 3 an a half fookin hours to do the other side:eek: could i fook get the spring to relocate in to the upper seat, did eventually get it to go back,
would of been fine if the spring compresser hadn't slipped so it got stuck when i put it back on it wouldn't go in, hopefully do other front next weekend

So I have a rear diff making 'orrible moises ... got a donor axle with only 48k on it (mine's 117k) and intended to use the diff, so thought I'd get ahead of the game and replace the oil seal and what a feckin' carry on!

Half shafts came out fine and look the dogs, no scoring or wear marks on the bearing surfaces and wheel bearings and nuts etc as clean as clean things that have just been cleaned twice. All looked good so undid all the diff nuts, took diff assembly out and it all looks hunky dory, so dropped it back on the axle after cleaning mating surfaces so I could work on the oil seal more easily.

Couldn't get the centralising plug out, absolutely solid, Plus Gas, three leg puller etc etc so eventually had to use the grinding wheel to cut the drive flange and bash with a percussion device till it bent enough to allow the plug to drop out. So now I need a rear diff drive (3-point to fit a rubber cush donut type thing) flange.

Bloody RCV doesn't open till tomorrow ...

Ah well, it all still looks good, but why is it that the simplest (should be) parts of the job are the ones that feck up the most ?

There's no need to use a spring compressor. It makes it more difficult if you ask me.
Support the car under the chassis on axle stands and have yer jack under the axle. Lower the axle as far as you can, without straining the brake flexi.
Remove the bottom spring seat from the axle and fit it to the bottom of the spring before offering the spring up. Locate the spring in the top bracket and ease the bottom onto the axle with a tyre lever or big screwdriver.
**** - piece of.

I have put a ring around it on the photo.

Thanks for that ratty, you've been a real help.

Will be bringing me mobile kitchen on the newbie run would you prefer sausages and beans, steal stew, lamb stew, fruit dumpling and custard or rice pud ?:D
