Rear Cross member looks shot? Some interesting comments on: Rear Cross member for Defenders and series: Thread

Rear crossmember IS shot! I need a new one, and some chassis welding, before the MOT...
The ones by Pressbrake look good, and the price is right, but it's a 4+ hour journey there, and then 4+ back again. I don't know anyone in the East Yorkshire area that does welding :(
(Well, not mates-rates type welding...)

Washed, t cuttet and carnauba waxed my disco. Got all the winter crud of her. She is now ready to get dirty, but with the wax protecting the bits. She doesn't look right clean though. Whilst cleaning found that the lower front crossbar is rusted through and the two thin metal straps that attach the rear wheel arches to the body work are rusted through, oh and. The rear silencer hook is about to go so rigged up a wire coat hanger to act as a catch if it goes befor replacement. Mmmmm me thinks a full waxoyl is needed. All other bits just have the usual surface rust. Thank goodness. Well it wouldn't be fun if there wasn't anything to do

just bought mine a bag of goodies,
new rear shocker bushes top and bottom,
new rear discs and pads,
new radius arm bushes, axle and chassis ends,
new rear bump stops.

busy weekend for me there when i get back from the uk :)

Took mine to the tip after clearing out the garage. Then took it into town, I parked it up on the pavement next to a X5, couldn't help noticing when people went by they were eyeing up the Defender rather than the X5. Mine is a working one not a show one but still gets the eye.
