Used Land Rover Defender world... lies, lies and more lies....

The repairs were minor, mostly parts replacements from the last two previous owners (3 years), the rest of the documentation showed it to have genuine mileage and a full service history choc full of genuine parts.

Many of the repairs could have been left but that's not my style. Of course I could have bought a 'used' example, covered in chequer plate and cheapo parts, no service history, no manual, rotten chassis parts, dripping with oil and caked in mud from years of use and abuse but equally that's not my style.

Everyone that see's it says the same thing 'damn that's a fine looking landy, it's like a new pin'.

and you will not be disapointed :D.

If, however you are of a delicate disposition, then LRO might be a more comfy environment .

I heard they were offering a free gift

I have about 15 mot certs which make my mileage believable. And it has a very good chassis, bulkhead has small holes. And I got it for a bargain! Original engine, original chassis, original axles and everything...

I do agree that you have to be careful when buying a defender as i have recently found when looking, there are plenty of sh*t places that try to be dealers who advertise on autotrader with cars that look like they have been rolled and other crap. But if you want a defender unless you buy one new you wont get what you want.

I used to be fussy about my cars. Had to have a paper trail, service history, no dings etc. On my Defender I wouldn't bother with all that. Have a look to see if the general condition is OK. A little neat etc. Parts are so cheap anyway and if they have been used for what they are intended for, half the parts have probably been changed anyway.I inherited mine. It had 111,000 miles on the clock, no back up but my friend who left me the Defender confirmed it was correct. Unfortunately he passed away. Cancer. out of that 111,000 miles very few was done on tarmac. It has crossed the Sahara several times. I have changed the wheel bearings , ball joints, bushes, silencer, battery, alternator. I broke a rear shocker so had to change them. The cost for these items is peanuts. Mechanically its now in great shape. When you change these parts you can put your own mark on it like upgrade stuff..

I went to look at mine and it was rotten on top of bulkhead, doors were knackered, seats ripped, brakes warped, gearbox had more slack than jordans knickers and abosolutely no service history , moral of the story is i don't mind buying a knacker as long as i know what's wrong to start with .It's better than paying a fortune for what appears to be mint and then finding a thousand problems when your budget is gone.all in she has cost me £1200 so far including original purchase and runs lovely.

:5biagree: this seems to be where Im heading.... if after I bought my banger Ive enjoyed the ride.... so to speak, then maybe I'll look for something a little more 'Mint'.... went and looked at a F Reg 90 CSW 2.5 TD today... new cross member welded, bulkhead welded at footwell, from my garage that MOT's my car, says he will MOT and sell the 90 as spare or repairs so no warrenty...way over a hundred thousand milage.... looks fooked... but its just over a grand !! I can live with any trauma that comes from this type of set up...

Very different to spending 10K and finding you bought a knacker....

Perfect, buy that. Poke around, then you will see where the weaknesses are and why, then your next purchase will be much better informed. That's my plan anyway!

Just one problem the 19 ticker engine won't pull the skin off rice pudding!
You may find it a bit slow as it struggles to keep up with the flow of traffic!!!

I was surprised by mine! It pulls better than I was expecting. I'm looking forward to see what this 200 is like..

I am always on the hunt to learn something new... are you refering to the F reg vehicle I said I looked at yesterday Karlos ??

I would be intruiged to know if this is still classed as a 200 befor it became a 200Tdi. I only know this vehicle as the 2.5 turbo desiel, not the 200Tdi and not the 2.5 N/A.

Please can someone confirm the correct engine ID for an F reg defender 90.

Many thanks

you are good at research, look it up on Land rover home site and tells all the history of the land rover . good reading:rolleyes::rolleyes:

No, I meant to see the difference between the td(19j) and the 200tdi.

The f reg will be a 2.5td 19j. The same as mine. But I have a 200tdi ready to put in mine.

f redg can be 2.5n/a 2.5td or 2.5 petrol or v8 l/c ,19j indierct injection ,200 tdi direct injection with twice injection pressure
