Worst case scenario you could strap a jerry can to the roof and gravity feed fuel...

Although as MHM says above... if you are on a road now you can just use AA / RAC / Green Flag to get home safely.

I can appreciate that but it was more to do with the fact we had booked to go up gatescarth pass. was only trying to help Nick get up there (which he did) considering him and his lass arranged the trip. would of been mighty unfair to go up there without them.

still, a huge thanks to the people on here who tried to help out. the effort was greatly appreciated by each and everyone of us

I live about 10ml from Hawes got a lift pump in the garage, if your still stuck PVT me and I could try and get to you, also have a welder and a genny, add me to a list of people that live in the area, I'me OK to try and help most weekends.

This isnt meant as a dig, but dont forget this is a voluntary service. To ask someone, for example, to travel 60 miles (120 round trip) with a spare wheel, for no compensation, like diesel etc, coz you cant be arsed to carry a spare, is not really playing fair.

It has happened. Which reminds me did the lender ever get his spare returned?

Like it did to me no compensation for expenses

we were only asking if anyone had one... we were willing to collect.. we had 3 fully functioning vehicles. no-one as far as i have read was asking anyone to deliver any part to us in Hawes.

my vehicles lift pump had failed.. my friends i had met on lz were upset that i would miss a trip that i had invited them to join me on..

they were trying every option to stop me ringing my recovery company and being taken home on a recovery truck.. i had told them that they would still have the pass for gatesgarth and continue without me.. i had maps of routes that we were goin to drive on sunday after completing gatesgarth and i was gonna pass the info on so i didnt spoil their weekend.

i had tried my recovery company to see if they could repair but as it was late saturday/sunday morning the only option they could give me was recovery.. we had searched ebay for anyone breaking a disco or selling a lift pump.. we had also checked gumtree and any other sites we could think of..

Assistance was asked for, it is up to the individual to decide to offer assistance, in my friends minds this was an emergency. the regulations attached to getting a pass for gatesgarth meant that we had to be at the start of the lane by 1pm sunday.. failure would result in applying for another pass next year.

i appreciate the efforts of my lz friends, and i am sorry that this was not concidered enough of an emergency by some to be entered on this particular section of lz.

luckily we found a derelict disco in a farmers field and negotiated the purchase of the lift pump for the sum of £10, which we fitted to mine.. packed up our campsite, and arrived at the start of Gatesgarth at about 12.30.

Thanks pussa, but as above, problem now solved... :)

Nick.
Did you read my first sentance..... "This is not meant as a dig". That is what I meant. I was not talking about your particular situation, but in general. Please do not take umbrage.

unfortunately mhm it did sound like a dig..

any time you follow a statement with a "but" does make it sound that way...

i.e.

"i'm sory i called you a (insert appropriate word), but i only sed it because you are."

A post was put in a thread we had already started earlier in the day.. I think it was added to that thread to hopefully solicit a rapid response, due to the time contraits we were operating under.. And also because that thread was open in a phone browser window, and due to the minimal/non existant coverage it was quicker to just continue the same thread, than navigating to a different section of the forum and opening a new thread.

Maybe it was the wrong section to post and for that i apologise.

nope

it was fine.... and I notified those that had replied earlier as possible assistants. The lack of response was possibly cos they couldnt help?

However Bump did post a "get yu home" fix

lack of help i understand and have no problem with... if ya cant help, ya cant help..

i would not have been able to help anyone with a lift pump even if they broke down outside my front door...

i have offered help and received help many times thanks to this un-rivaled forum and the people on here.

if you have a problem with peoples miss use of LZIR make your objections in a seperate thread and make it a sticky..

as far as the welding work repair, i have the gear to do it and although lugging a genny and welder into the disco, plus associated bits of stuff to do the job would be a mild pita, then drive to hawes and a bit of green laning, its summat i'd do as part of the epic.

mebe not for the first time poster or one hit wonder, but these guys would be worth helping out. not just as a get yer home, but to enable continuation of their epic.

donation to costs i'm sure there would be, but would i accept? i'd like to think they'd come to my assistance should i need it.

slightly biased as i "know" them, ive been out once before with them and thats now over 12 months ago, never been to a pub meet with them, but hey ho, thats how i work.

yes, i'd probly offer again, as i would with most other situations subject to availability.
LZIR to me is a method of contacting assistance for those i may not yet know, like my phone is to my friends when they break down.

if ya dont ask, then yer'll never know! (and at worst, the answer's gonna be a no)

long may it prosper!

ps. i didnt have a lift pump, and said so nick knew where he stood with it.

cheers nrgserve..

your offer of the use of your facilities has been noted on a number of occasions, but so far i have managed to do my repairs on my drive..

however if i have to do another clutch in 6 months i may be taking you up on your previous offers... ;)

dont think my knees and back could take any more abuse...

i'll usually publicise stuff once (inc info on other threads), then its up to the individual what they do. i dont push stuff into peoples faces, but do take the **** when advise aint followed an i have to get involved to sort issues out! (in a good freindly humoured **** taking sort of way....)

shop's available most times, have a mates disco in atm undergoin' some ferrous oxide removal from the front nearside wheel arch for the mot. doorways available tho

ya need to alter ya sig at bottom of yr post to...

And a shed full of bits (but no lift pumps)

I'm glad it worked out and you got to do the pass :)

It made me realise that LZIR has grown so much that when someone has a problem somewhere and there's very few within reasonable reach and nobody can help it comes as a bit of a shock!

Thank the LR gods for abandoned Discos :D

Glad you got it all fixed and all managed to do gatescarth pass, its a great lane and great area have been over several times. On our first trip up we travelled up from Essex in a couple of SJs some years back for a weeks laning ending in Gatescarth but the second car developed a leaking head gasket the evening before pass day so ended up following a recovery truck all the way home.

Sorry I've only just seen this, I have my old trailing arms and props in my shed, I also carry a few welding rods and some jump leads and mole grips, and 2 small bits of wire ( battery gauge) so I can link my 2 battery's together and weld where ever as a get you home.

There's was a thread on it somewhere welding with battery's
