Ok, I'm mightily confused. I have a Defender 110 TD5, late 1999, SALLDHA87XA176528

I need a new UJ at the back end of the rear propshaft. However, with the help of the mighty internet and a dodgy copy of microcat, I've overloaded my braind.

What are my choices, and for mostly on road use is it still worth forking out for a decent brand... and what is a decent brand? GKN / Hardy Spicer?

What part number do I want? TVC100010 , RTC3458, RTC4587 or what?

And do I want a grease nipple or not? Guessing it's a good idea, but if I didn't have one to start with, is it going to fit?

And do I want a rubber cap or a metal cap, and what exactly is that referring to?

Anyway, thanks for some help. I think sometimes having too much information on tap is as much a bad thing as a good thing... without the internet I'd probably have bought something and fitted it already!

Thanks steve, but argh, another model, RTC3291!

I guess I'll have to measure the span... anyone know if there's only two types, one at 75mm and one at 82mm, and as long as the size matches the UJ does? Kind of the picture I'm getting....

if you google the part numbers you have suggested all will become clear! one part number is for a P38 for starters! if you look on the link i gave, i believe you need the smaller one. yes, 2 types only

Lol I did think about it, but what's anyone going to do with a random defender chassis number? You could invent one quite easily :)

Ordered the TVC100010 , hardy spicer brand, not H/D, thought £7.50 sounded a decent price! From what I can see the part number is for a range rover / disco, but it's just an uprated RTC3458 / RTC3291 same size, heavier duty, this page suggests the same Thanks for your help dudes!
