P38 is 3500kg, as you now know. Sometimes the weight plates are a bit tricky to decipher at first glance! I've heard the 2.5 is a bit gutless at towing heavier loads ( only compared to the bigger engined models ). I have pulled my caravan and a couple of cars on "A" frame, including my Doblo and she pulls fine. However, I find the caravan caused some wandering, although at the test the mechanic was very thorough on all the bushes and suspension components. New tyres fitted too, so perhaps the tracking needs checked...
As for the question about the American gooseneck set up, it's just a smaller version of an articulated truck.
However, I think they like it better because American vehicles tend to be a bit sh*t in the suspension stakes and also about 800 feet long, so anything to shorten them will be met with appraisal
There's a guy at our work who drives the artic (Volvo) and he can spin a trailer in it's ow length, awesome driver
