Classic Wiring a 13 Pin Trailer Socket - properly and as intended

She is registered as a commercial towing vehicle in the papers with a towing limit, pneumatic break system being installed, of 6.5 tons... Well, the suspension is certainly good!

A bunch of things so far:

Two wire colors differ between the Autospark harness and the wiring diagram, the one from the ignition lock position 5 is white-orange instead of brown-white (could also be a different ignition lock issue) and the ignition coil wire should be White-Pink but is solid pink on the new engine bay harness. Both are no big deals.

The standard connector for a 7 pin socket is in fact connected to the interior lights. I have to track down a wiring plan of an original 7 pin socket to figure out why and how and all. Foesn't make sense at first glance, but people way better at electrical systems than me certainly had reason to do so.

Also of note, there should be connectors for additional headlamps, and a switch for those. I never saw such a switch anywhere. A pitty really, because using those standard connectors with some rallye head lamps in a 80s design sounds like a cool idea. I need to track those wires down tomorrow, maybe I find the switch that way!

The fun thing is, I do learn a lot of stuff, from accessability to wiring and such, that is incredibly helpfull at work! I should try to put the parts as a tax write off! 😁

Those modern 7 pin sockets have nothing I would connect to the interior lights... Those have indicator lights, brake lights, fog lights, tail lights and a negative... Weird, really weird

There used to be a classic metal grill with spot lights in it.(better than spots on bumper.

High beam was operated by floor button like series motors

I know that grill, looks goofy if you ask me. And those additional headlights obstruct air flow to the radiator.

Another issue just came up, the manual window regulators are obsolete... Which means I somehow have to make the electric windows work again, after having removed the wiring in a less than gentle manner assuming the manual ones are one order away...

The switches installed have 5 wires... Original Disco 1 switches? They somehow look like those...

Just for the record, I think I figured out what the interior lighting contact is used for, it is (cpupd be) the constant plus. In case of 13 pin sockets, 7 pin sockets don't have one. Either way, I might just use it as a constant plus, saves me one cable. And if I leave the fridge pin of a 13 pin socket blank, I can install the socket without any additional wiring.

Neat.
