Tinkering with my Vogue

Have you had the shocks in and used the vehicle before stripping her? I was just wondering how they were and felt in comparison to the standard gas filled shocks.

Yes, ran them on the old farm I worked on, never on the road. They were a nice ride over a rough field and they performed where I wanted them to. Didn't do much with it but was good what I did. Cornered well as well, not to much tilt on the body.

Well, today I went up for a bit, cleaned off and painted the fuel tank, etch primed and painted the underside of the front wings to give some extra protection, It will get some kind of undersqueel but after the MOT.

I fitted the rear quarter outer trim bits as I picked them up to move them yet again and decided to fit them so they were out of the way.

Went to do some brake lines but could only find my old cutter and that won't close enough to cut the pipe so gave up on that.

Thought I would fit the flexy hoses in place, again something else I won't have to move again. Started with the rear. It started to come out then just turned in side the T, couldn't budge it out and guessing the thread has gone something else for the list.

I then wanted to get the floor down so things can go backin, fitted the speedo cable, then went to do the wiring. Couldn't find my loom off the 3 speed auto, the harness was different on the 4 speed and the plug was different on the LT77

So I fired up the forklift and moved the chassis that I had left in the yard from yesterday, tidied a few bits up as I am back at work tomorrow and noticed the wiring loom on the old V8

Fook it I'm going home to play with my lad and get moaned at by the wife. Got home and nobody in. So shower then Tesco for some beer and sit in the garden

More again on Thursday.

Finished work at a reasonable time so did a couple of bits.

I managed to get the gearbox wired up, I think it's right, only time will tell I suppose. There is however a plug for something on the left of the transfer box near the back on the side, looks like the reverse sender, is this a oil temp sensor? Should I wire a light up to it? I will put a pic up tomorrow and it's not there on either auto out of the rangys.

Anyhoo, did the wiring then put the floor loosely in.



Think the top is going to need some adapting, can't get all the gears like this



Need to have a ponder with that one

Tried to fit the wings, but the holes in the bulkhead are to small for the bolts I want to use, and I didn't have the drill.



So I gave up with them and fitted the pedals



So much easier without the steering column. Just got to fit the brake servo and throttle cable and can tick that bit off.

Couple of brackets to make and that can go in.

Played with the flaring tool on the fuel line, only needs to hold the pipe on with a jube clip.



Is there anybody who can tell me how the bolts thread into the back of the seat box, bit shown below, has something fallen off on mine and how do I fix it as there is nothing inside

Something for people to check if your exhaust is close to your chassis, this is the donor chassis

The bit in the center that hooks over on the seat box.

Stu..Mine looks like this. Seperate bit spot welded on.. seat runner bolts directly to it.. sorry can't help

Tonight I got some more done. In bolt on what I can before I get chucked out mode now.

I drilled the bulkhead holes a bit bigger and bolted the front wings on.



I made the ends up and connected the fuel lines to the engine, just the tank end to sort out now.

Then concentrated on the brake lines. Had to use the Disco brake servo and MC as my rangy one wouldn't fit the peddle box. Which was a shame as the MC looks new.

Made up my first ever brake line.



That went well so I made another. This one had the rear brake valve on, didn't like the position being at the bottom of the wing so I bolted it on top next to the peddle box.



Right, thats about it for today. But do I need to fit a light or something to this sensor on the transfer box? And what is it for? The pics are taken from underneath





Working the weekend but will try and get some bits done on the Rangy.

Ye, there the same as on the 1988 I got. I know that I unbolted them but can't find any thread inside and can't get in to see.

Thats what I thought. Does it work like a thermostat and come on when hot? I think I have a few of them on the system, might need a row of lights somewhere.

Would think it would o to a warning lamp on dash but hey no idea personally wouldn't bother with it a decent tranny box is quite tough if its linked oneng management then wire it up but I think you won't need it tbh my lt230 and most motors do not have them fitted

The gearbox is out of a 91 Disco V8 so could be part of the hotwire system, dunno about the engine, the ecu and flapper system is separate to the other loom so will and guessing they are just lights on the dash. But will see. More to do before worrying about that.

I think it's a light on dash cog an a thermometer but guess that's on the loom for the disco

There is a warning light on the dash for Transmission Temp... looks like a gear (roughly in the middle) and will flash up when you turn on ignition.

Not on mine, might light them all up, will be good to know if its cooking somewhere.
