Should I re paint this Range Rover

Stirling work there Stu... Can I ask if you got the inner wheel arch and light box as a complete assembly ? Mine now resemble what's left on your workshop floor ! How it all stays where it is I'll never now !! Cheers.

They were complete from paddocks, think they were £160ish each, just needed seam sealing and bolt straight in.
 
Not much done today, Primary school morning as the kid starts in September then the wife wanted to go show jumping at 5 so not much time, but I did start taking the engine out of the EFi, hopefully that will come out tomorrow. So I painted the chassis ready for the engine and gearbox.

So today seemed to go by fast.

Re built all suspension parts.

Pained the shell

Then removed the engine from the donor. the fun way :D

Took the gearbox off out of the way.

Lots of bits between the crank and the torque converter

found a great way of keeping the engine from turning when taking crank bolts out

24mm 15/16" if anyone is interested.

It says something when the bolts are gassed off and it still leaves the body behind

this is a mile stone moment. From now on there is only rebuild left, mainly because there is nothing left to take apart :D:D

And yes the chassis is MF red.
 
This is a amazing thread, so by the looks there is not a shortage of body parts for these baby's. Well there is no real rust on my Rangy but there is lots of seals and exterior trims I would like to get my hands on. Where do you get glass from and the glass seals, do the body parts guys sell door locks, and where do you get your interior parts from.
Sorry for all these questions, there is not much to work with in Aus.

Seals and locks try Land Rover Parts & Range Rover Parts, Accessories, 4x4 Tyres & Wheels they had my flywheel bolts on the shelf, the other stuff Google is your friend.
 
Another day on the build. Its all coming together now.

Firstly I fitted the flywheel, postage cost more than the bolts but they were worth it.

Thread lock on all, had to be fast in the heat today before it set.

Spigot bush knocked in nicely, thank you to everybody who said I needed one.

Used a extension in the center of the spigot to keep the clutch plate central, could have done with something a bit fatter so less sloppy but by the i would have found something right I had it on.

Then a huge panic :eek: :eek: :eek: I had forgot to get any bolts to hold the clutch plate onto the flywheel :doh: :doh: A few frantic phone calls, including land rover where I found which size they are, 3/8" UNF 3/4" for the record. Managed to find some in a local motor spares on the shelf :D

Spent ages getting the fuel tank off and ran the main fuel lines then help arrived and we put the gearbox on, slid on nice and easy so the extra time lining up the clutch plate was well worth it.

From this point on I forgot to take any pics but I think Killajoules has some that hopefully will be posted soon.

But to fill in the gap we bolted the engine gearbox onto the chassis mounts. Then moved some bits and lifted the shell back onto the chassis.

U busy day yesterday, first djdommyp and I managed to get the 200tdi and LT77 out of the old discovery we are breaking. Took a lot longer than anticipated as I had promised Stu some help too.

Managed to get to Stu's by 4pm, where we got the LT77 bolted to the new engine then hoiked it out of the old chassis into the rebuild

We then tried to lift the body shell, whoops, first try and the wooden joists fouled on the forks, whoops:rolleyes:

Another bit of timber nailed in to spread the joists around the forks and hey presto :D

Roll the chassis under

And gently lower the shell aligning the mounts from the rear cross member forward

Then we could start bolting the bugger down

Only when we had finished to we notice that one of the lifting sttrops we had used to manoevre the chassis around was still wrapped around the chassis:your_wrong:
