mozz check your fuel filler/cap is not blocked resulting in pressurising of the fuel tank, also possible corrosion of fuel line above fuel tank, there is a fair bit of crud around that area which could soak up fuel leakage without tel -tale signs of dripping + you said you could smell fuel .ive personally never dropped the fuel tank on a 38 its far quicker & easier to chop the floor.

Sorry I disagree, it's an easy job to drop the tank and you can check the brake pipes while you are at it. :):)

With the emission system fitted to these vehicles there is supposed to be pressure in the fuel tank.:) ;)

hi lads , yes you've all got your thinkin caps on , all good comments !!!!!! so yes I agree on electric possibilities and have asked this question before , how to test electric without taking tank off ??????????? as I said before in no mechanic !!!!!! plus before I turn starter this morning I will check cap ,,but what am I looking for ???????? or am I completely stupid ???????? " don't answer last comment "" ... hopefully It will start ok this morning I will report back shortly ,,, and tony I will ring you this morn too if that's ok ?????? cheers mate ... speak later regards mozz:):):)

hi lads , well further update ,, not good !!!!! checked fuel cap and on opening no hissing i.e. no air !!!!! turned car over no start !!!! after 8 attempts it started , obviously going backwards here instead of forward , I thought we was on a winner last couple of days but no ,, SO im now thinking a leak in tank in tank somewhere maybe fuel line out of tank or pump seal ?????????? I just don't know ,,will speak to someone today and I will have to organise tank coming off and get them to check everything connected to tank I.e. fuel lines filter , wiring etc etc etc ,, so now im ****ed off again and confused by it all ,,,:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Not gone much into it, but there is a pressure valve in the emissions system that vents tank pressure and fumes into the intake at certain times.

Do you mean EVAP system a charcoal canister with solenoid to vent vapour into engine:)

Try another diagnostic device, only been on autologic, maybe fault can be detected by another, sure someone nearby will come round with their device, worst case pay someone with Test book (dealer) to check faults

Got the fuel pressure tested yet?

All this taking the car apart in maybe the wrong place is rather expensive and doesn't do your mood any good either :D
