Total agree!!
Never knew such a bodge job could exist and I'm a real master at bodge jobs, but this is just a step too far!
Think that cable was for some kind of possible police light setup in the front grill.. It connects into the drivers dash with a switch... But then again.. I doubt police would have their connectors and switches wired like this.... (unless it's something to do with the LPG but I don't think it is) View attachment 244199 View attachment 244200

What was the message if any on the cluster?
Have you tried re-sync by turning and pressing the corresponding button.

Don't ask me why but that's where they have lived for the past 2 owners.
Why
No really, they were to tight too sort things properly simple , as is noted by your LPG wiring. A "mechanic" friend said well you just do this and it will be fine, Bollocks.
I expect you will be finding a few more surprises along your journey.
