Terrafirma 2" lift

Hi all,

Just bought a +2" medium duty lift kit from terrafirma. When I compared the springs with the original standard springs there was only about 10mm difference in height. Do the standard springs compress more or do the extended shocks hold the car higher?

shocks dont hold the car up..... if they did u would shear the top the first bump you hit

the springs more than likely will not compress as easily as the originals

assuming that they were standard springs on it...

Yeah didn't think the shocks held it up, I think the old springs were standard, either that or they were knackered

My TF medium +2inch springs were the same height as my standard springs but the landy sits almost 3 inches higher with them on. Think my old springs were shagged.

Send em back, had this exact problem a few months ago and it is a problem with the springs, ended up getting HD springs for a finish, pretty unhappy with the quality of terra parts though anyway...

Was that after fitting them? It'll be a while yet before I fit them because I've bought them in preparation before I get the axles fitted next week. All the part numbers match the 2" lift numbers on the website. What was the problem with the springs?

The springs mustn't compress as much as standard then, I'll find out in a few weeks time when I get them under

I have the 'terribly firma' +2" medium kit on my 90. You are right when you say the springs do not compress as much..... you are in for a rattling!

Anyone else who wants a TF +2 kit on a 90 - do your bones a favor and get the light duty kit!!

Below is a comparrison (left to right) britpart +2" HD, The second set of terra +2" MD i recieved, the first set of terra +2" i recieved (and painted green), the standard front ones i removed (there since 1991):

note the number of coils in the different brands, and thickness of the steel, and also the difference in height.

next two images show the difference in height (from bumpstop to axle) between the britpart springs and the terra springs.

and again, a look from the outside:

note how the britpart spring is visable below the turret and the terra one isnt.

heres how it looked with britpart front and terra back (rear terras were fine)

how it looked with terras all round:

Thanks for the info, I'm not sure what to do just yet, don't really fancy having odd springs but I won't know until I get all the bits on.

Manufacturing tolerances don't seem to be Terry's strongest suit. I got a did guard and transmission guard and the diff guard had to be hacked up to fit and new holes had to be drilled in the the transmission guard to fit.

In saying that, my receiver hitch, tank guard and few other Terrafirma parts seem fine and are a good fit so have to be careful it seems which bits you buy.

Have britpart lift kit in my 110 and it sits perfect and is definitely a high 2" lift

shocks could do with a little more damping alright but their not noticeably too soft.

I have had terra mediums 2inch lift on my 90 for a few years now and have performed very well for me

I have a garage with tight over head clearance. Anybody have some info on how much the ride height is affected with a terrafirma 2” kit over a standard set up.?
im guessing this highly variable based on how old the standard set up is and how loaded the vehicle has been/is…
but some rough numbers would help….or is everyone just going to say roughly 2”…..haha
mine is an exmod 90 as well..which I have a feeling came with different suspension setup than the civi versions…
any info helpful tho.

I'm unsure exactly on mod spring set up, I would hazard a guess it will be almost certainly a standard height spring, and very likely a HD rated part, although not necessarily.
And you honestly have answered that question yourself, take into account a bit of sag from the used springs you have on there and empty the Landy will sit up 2" plus any old sag you had in the old springs. New springs tend to be very 'taught' and take a few miles to bed in properly.
My clearance is so tight that on buying new 235/85 muds my roof just touches the opening of the garage, as opposed to the same size worn all terrains, so be wary of that!

Why have you bought a lift?

Springs sound like HD ones, so will compress less. Expect poor ride and degraded suspension flex normally.

Ok then anyone on here using the terrafIrma adjustable shocks. +2 inch. Tf175 part number. Pretty hard to find them for sale anywhere…
any tips or reviews….?

I had TF shocks on my old disco 1. Within six months, they were very rusty. Not impressed. They were fitted with Bearmach 2” lift springs. It was quite a soft ride. Not one I’d go for again on a vehicle that spent 90%+ time on road.
