Hi,

I am looking at taking off the 2inch lift kit, that was fitted to the Landy by the previous owner, and taking it back to stock.

My question, do I just need to change shocks and springs, or do the turrets need replacing too?

Do you know what was changed? Do you go off road at all? Longer shocks can increase suspension flex, you don't need to have the lift to get this benefit. But there are many many different ways to modify the suspension.

The shocks "look" to be OK, so if the shocks, are OK, is it perfectly OK to leave them on and just change the springs?

I would change them while you are there, especially the front.
All looks very rusty, I would be checking them brake lines.
Don't know for sure but if it has extended flexi pipes you might need to change them back to original 🤔
 
Thanks for you advice, this is a landy my wife bought as a "project" the plan is front and rear axle removal and refurb, all bushes, bearings, seals and ball joints to be changed, will change the brake lines too.

tbh Terrafirma shocks generally haven't been all that great, you may want to check them when you remove them and may well end up making a mess of the fronts ones in order to remove them.

What do you use your vehicle for?

There is a lot of choice with shocks and springs. And you don't need to spend silly on them. If you off road, there is opportunity to improve suspension flex. Or tailor it more for road use.

Terrafirma shocks don't have the best of reputations however I do have some on the front of my 1994 D90 and they've been ok.
The rear ones didn't last long and snapped off where they attach to the axle. To be fair i'd left the 'cups' on and I don't have any anti-roll bars.

I replaced mine with Britpart Orange and they've been fine (so far - couple of years).

If the shocks still feel OK i'd reccommend you change the bushings and washers, the shocks will be OK with the lower spring height.

Assuming it is a 90 you have. These are good quality springs: https://www.flatdoguk.com/search.asp?types=FD+SPRINGS

You can get standard height or +2" in the standard spring rate. I wouldn't go for HD ones. The +2" will give about 1" of lift, due to only being std rate, but work well with longer shocks for more flex.

Front one linked above. Not sure what year your vehicle is, rears vary buy year. These shocks can be had in +2" if you go for the longer spring, else go std length with normal length springs.

You'll want some HD galvanised turret rings (eBay). You may also want to swap the turrets over, depends on the condition of yours when you take them off.

Gwyn Lewis does some nice ones which are an open design, much easier to keep clean and fit/remove.

That's pretty much it.

Fairly easy job at home, you'll want a couple of jacks and an axle stand. Maybe a mate to help you.

Might be worth checking the spring clamps and lower seats on yours, they can rot and are cheap to replace.
 
My Britpart orange shocks completely failed after less than 5k miles.
Although they have lasted well on my son's Ninety, so have the Terrafirma on the front axle.
