Spent the evening looking at dog guards / boxes / boot protectors and drinks cabinets…

I really like the TransK9 range but my word, they can charge for it!

Also was trying to see if JLR do a service plan similar to MB do - I pay a sum per month that covers the annual service, mot & MB assist ) breakdown cover)

A JLR assist plan would either be astronomically expensive or unprofitable for JLR given the lack of reliability.

If it was me, personally I’d put some cash to one side each month, similar to your MB service plan then just pay a good local independent to service or repair as and when it’s needed, or do the servicing yourself as many of us do on here, not hard cars to service and long as you keep the parts receipts it still keeps service history.

When looking at cars I prefer receipts that main dealer invoices when there’s a chance filters are ticked off but not changed, saw that the other week servicing a mates Nissan qushqui or whatever it’s called and last was Nissan dealer.. oil filter was rusty and seized solid, no way had that been off within 12 months.

The problem with a ‘good independent’ is the local one who is supposed to be good with LR’s charged me £78 for a diagnostic test on my MB but didn’t actually put the car on a ramp or check the ATF level. It took a further £200+VAT at my local MB Dealership to do that and discover the oil seal leak…

Yes, but you know you want it.
It is a good looking car and only just run in at c.50k.
Its not as if you will be putting vast mileage on it on your daily commute is it?

Even if I kept it for 2 years, it would only get to about 70k mileage…

Exactly! A bit of fun and you are unlikely to break it. LR's do that all by themselves, but saying that all modern cars (with a few exceptions) have much more to go wrong in terms of electronics.
I am committed to my old P38, it has sufficient comfort and refinement for my needs and a minimum of gee-whizzery to go belly-up on me. :D
