Strange one here. Ill be lucky if Ive done 10 miles since MOT, but Speedo reading 61 after I had zeroed it. Watched it tonight, and about every quater mile, maybe not even that it was clocking a mile up.
What the hells going on here.

What speedo are you using? The original cable driven unit? If so, there are only a few things it could be. The speedo could be U/S, or the speedo drive could be U/S. What transfer box is it?

Oh, hang on a minute, is the transfer box out of a discovery? Does it have a speed sensor in it? Have you tried to couple that to a defender TD5 digital speedo?

LT 77 gearbox think its the Origional Transfer but not sure. Its the Origional speedo that came with Dash Binnacle , brand new cable and that ring gear thingy.

The “ring gear thingy”, is that the speedo drive gear in the transfer box? The gearbox should be irrelevant as it has nothing to do with the speed indicated. I have a spare speedo if you want to give that a try as a means of diagnosing the fault?

Yes that's the one that goes in Transfer box. Will try and sort a Day out to try yours if we both get time. Thanks Mate.
Just as well I dont do many miles,

Only the speedo drives are different.
Clocks are universal.

so what size tyres?
Is this a disco transfer box?
Look at the transfer box where you filled it up,on the lower edge is there a sticker with the ratio?

Im sure they are different colours, the speedo drives. What colour did you fit?

I know it’s slightly pedantic, but that’s slightly misleading saying the clocks are “universal”. An ROW TDI or TD5 won’t work directly in a cable driven 200tdi or 300tdi, without extra parts and wiring.

Yes but if he has as quoted used the brand new cable I’m saying(presuming)it’s not a td5 transfer.
Oh if this was a classic RR he could always put the speedo cable into the transducer ;)

30 inch tyres will check, though, will take a look at transfer box for sticker, . I remember having to get the correct colour ring gear, will check that too.
Think yous all know its a 300tdi engine out of Disco, if that makes a difference.

The engine and gearbox shouldn’t really make a difference. If you have a cable drive going from the transfer box up to the speedo, then it’s only the transfer box speed that is of interest.

You need to know what colour the speedo drive gear is, I think for “most” applications a blue gear is the one to get, but check that first. After you have confirmed what colour the drive gear is, assuming it’s correct, it can only really be the speedo itself I think.
