So What is it with Series landies

I just bought a series 3 swb and all I have done is drive it in and out the garage, but it does make me smile , and the garage wall black. But I used to have gipsys and series ones so maybe I am just trying to recapture my youth. By the way doesnt powder where the floor should be make you depressed, till you remember you can pop on a new floor for a few quid.

On one of the first decent hot sunny fridays of the year, I pulled into a petrol station. Filling up there was; an old fat bald man in a gold volvo convertable with the roof down, an old fat bald man in a dark blue Bentley convertable with the roof down, and me, a young fat hairy man in an old battered series 2a with no roof at all. I believe my choice of transport (not to mention my youth and hairsuit bonce) meant I was the only one there with any credibility. I bet they don't get nods of approval from complete strangers everywhere they go or people praise their car in carparks. I bet neither of their cars will be everyday use after nearly fifty years and beyond. I bet they can't be fixed with parts that cost only a few pounds and need little more than a box of spanners. Most of all, I bet that they miss out on the thrill of owning a series landrover that is the feeling of embarking on an adventurous expedition every time you start it up, even if you are just nipping out to get some milk.

So it seems that to put a smile on your face, drive a series 111.
If you need a vehicle to do 100's of miles every day,=cheap euro or jap crap.
But if you want a vehicle to out live you and something to pass onto the kids eventually, I mean lets face it I would rather die in the drivers seat of my series because of natural causes than be wiped out on the M5 doing 100+ in some tin shack with a wheel on each corner,

SO go Buy a series landy. Dont all rush at once we don't want the price going up too far!!!

Many moons ago I had a LWB series 2a in resplendent day glo orange complete with Harvey Frost and slow flashing yellow lights, it was Meccano all over again. Managed to break it's back pulling a big diesel Renault van up a large hill. Both doors flew open as the cab tried to follow the Reno back down the hill:D
Got myself a 2a SWB petrol that was so sweet and reliable that I swapped it for a RR 3 door complete with rust, smelly seats and a tiny Perkins that I saw overheating on the M56 and thought FIT. Managed to banana the head.

That was 20 years ago and I pick up my S3 109 with big Perkins tomorrow. Some of us never grow up and that's the best thing about this life----- You don't have to:)

This Series thing is visceral and temporal, the mind thinks the body would feel good sat behind that huge thin thing looking through that letter box over that big black thing whilst the ears are coping with a din that would waken Besty and the brain is shaken enough to resemble yoghurt with chopped liver floating in it. And sadly it's right!
