hi
sure this has been asked before? .. I have a 2005 td5 whch looking to replace the standard steering wheel with an after-market smaller version. Question is how many splines does the hub have ? ..
I could of course remove the steering wheel, count them and then order the wheel ... wondering if any way to tell from model ref. etc?
also, anyone recommend a good quality wheel (leather) which will still cancel indicators etc?
many thanks
rgds

It's the boss you need to order that will cancel out your indicators as the tabs that's usually do it are built into the wheel. You simply undo it, bolt the boss on and then the boss to the steering wheel, however make sure the boss is correct for the wheel you buy. Search eBay.

thanks for the answer ... to be more precise the car is a 2005 double cab pick up ... has an "airbag" steering wheel ... seen various bits of conflicting info, and another note that said that landrover put what appeared to be random shafts in their cars when produced ..

further investigation ....seen a visual guide on Mudstuff .... mine is an airbag style ... XS trim dcpu ... means 36 spline from what I can gather ...

Like I always say, if you are in the SLIGHTEST doubt then just remove the wheel and count the splines. At least that way you will be 100% positive that you are buying the correct boss and as you are going to be removing the wheel anyway, where is the problem???

Personally I have had four different aftermarket wheels on my 90 over the years and all have been excellent.
Mountney 14-inch PVC and then leather 3-spoke "classic" wheels with polished alloy spokes, very comfortable.
Raid 12-inch leather & brushed alloy wheel on (genine) "Snap-Off" mounting, maybe too small for some but I really liked it and being only 12-inch it fitted into my "manbag" so I could always carry it when I parked the vehicle.
Finally I am now running a 350mm Momo wheel on a slimline boss, once again a very good wheel and of course better quality than the other offerings.

All have engaged the flasher ring so self-cancelling of the indicators has never been an issue and instead of the horrible plastic horn-push centre I use a brushed alloy disc which looks much nicer.
