Possible Heater Matrix problem?

It doesn't sound as if the repair guy is a complete bodge monkey, he could after all have just said to bugger off. The repair to the 'o' rings seems to have worked but I'm at a loss as to how he could have buggered the blower fans (both of them at that) in the process

I had a very quick look in the fuse box but didnt know which one to look at. Will give that a shot.

Saint.V8 - Yeah, I saw the diagrams for it on the workshop manual. I figured if it was a loose connection or something then surely atleast ONE of them would be working, but both of them are none responsive so thats what confused me. Hmmmm

Kieronf - Nah hes a straight up guy, really helpful. He even drove nearly 3 hours to my house to fix it for free, then 3 hours back after doing 2 and a half hours work on it. He said he felt bad for selling the car and it happening a few days after.

I dont know if he knows what hes done to it either to be honest. He said it sounded like coolant had gotten into the electrics and he didnt touch anything to do with the blowers :/

Try looking at the earth point....Both fans earth to the same point (E910) which is behind the A pillar Cover on the drivers side (as attached).

May not be it but it won't hurt checking.

He told me to check the numbers under the car seat 8, 17

and by the coolant under the bonnet 31,34,42,43.

All of these are fine, except under the drivers seat fuse box number 8 isnt there. As in the whole (im not sure what the word is..fuse?) isnt slotted into number 8. Now I dont know if this is the reason or not? And I dont know if the blower isnt working because he put the wrong fuse back in the wrong number? If so which one do I remove without effecting anything else and which one do I put it back into?

Just looked up the fuse diagram on the workshop manual.

#8 is for cruise control. I remembered he emailed me yesterday evening saying

"Check to see if the cruse control works, I think it only works over 50mph. If not I may have knocked the vac hose off from the brake light switch."

#13 is for electric air suspension (EAS) and it has coil suspension so I presume that if there is one in number 13 I can take that out and put it into #8?

Although, call me massively ignorant, but I can't see how putting a fuse in to make the cruise control work would make the blowers work and provide heater/air con??

Boiling water and steam are just what you do not need in a P38, I reckon it's got into somewhere it shouldn't, maybe the blower motor speed controllers, connectors or even the HEVAC unit itself. Logical fault diagnosis with a meter or someone with a Faultmate who can force the blower operation for testing is what is needed.

According to RAVE, your missing fuse 8 (30A) is for phone, amplifier, cig lighter, radio, heating and ventilation + air con.

There should be a spare 30A in one of the sockets or under the bonnet. try one and see if any of the items above work..............

Don't remove Any other fuses to test in No.8...that would be opening yourself up for a world of hurt....

Cruise Control works above 28mph I believe...

There are a number of vac hoses for the Cruise control that split with grave regularity, and he may have knocked a vac pipe of the Brake Vent switch for sure....

According to my manual Fuse 13 is the starter interlock solenoid and various others....Fuse 8 is for the Cigar Lighter, A/C System and Radio etc....does your radio work??

If you have a missing fuse in No.8 I would assume your radio doesn't....

Haha yeah I didnt want to swap the fuses around incase I ended up blowing them all, and it appears that my fuse diagram that I downloaded was wrong!

Anyone have a link to the Rave edition PDF that they are using? I downloaded one but I guess it must be wrong.

I only tried putting the radio on when ive been driving so havent paid much attention to it and have been happy with listening to Susan Tedeschi - Midnight in Harlem on repeat on CD. Love blues :)

Will go and give it a try now.

Saint.V8 - Do you think I should use one of the spare 30As under bonnet to see if it works? Or is it still a bad idea.

I feel like an idiot. Its number 17 missing not number 8.

Just tested it, Radio works fine, as does cig lighter.

Downloading one from here, lots of other forums seem to be linking to it ;
land rover service factory manual RAVE download land rover resource, service manual, workshop factory manual, download, rave, vehicles including discovery, series, defender, range rover, freelander, LR3, Handbooks, Catalog, Catalogue, Land Rover Inte

I feel like im going around in bloody circles here haha.

What does the brake switch do? He said if the brake switch isnt working then cruise control wont. Don't see how this effects my heater/aircon/blower issue.

Cool saves my uploading even though I do have Fibre Optic BB..!!

The brake switch won't affect your Heater prob...but will render the CC not functioning...

The P38 has 2 brake switchs, one for the lights and one for the CC shutdown.

But it doesn't explain the heater probs...so we start back at the beginning of the circle...

Do you have access to a multimeter and some screwdrivers??

Does anyone know of anyone that is around the Surrey/Kent way that could be willing to help me out on this one?

I could take off the dashboard/steering wheel but dont have the confidence to do this myself without screwing something up. :(

I'm worried that if I go to a garage that I will get fleeced or they will charge a LOT purely on labour (I've been told its not a 2 second job and will take a couple of hours).

It just needs the O rings replaced on the heater matrix.
no no ive took a dashboard out of a p38 and it aint a nice job go the asy way read prev threads

Nope. My dad has his own company and is probably the least technical/mechanical minded person ever apart from computer technology haha.

Have normal everyday household screwdrivers, but nothing in particular for cars.

Wil2813 - I didnt mean the dashboard, I meant the panels next to the heater/radio unit

with new seals takes about 50 mins on average ( lets just say ive done a fair few now lol ) remove both dash side trims ( 2 screws lift trims out from the ide of the gear trim and with hand near to the bend of the pannel push firmly down they will unclick and come out ) remove the 4 screws holding the hevac unit in situe and with the ignition off remove all the plugs and make sure there is now water or damaged pins plug them all in and out a few times asnormaly this is just a bad connection on the hevac unit its self. if the heater core temp sensor has been left disconnected then the blowers will still work just temp side of things wont work aswell as it should.
