If it's overfueling, the FIP is not doing it's job or the injectors are fecked. But, runs fine once started? apart from smoke, I thought this was over fueling?

Have you checked the fuel temperature sensor in the FIP with diagnostics or the EDC engine temperature sensor for that matter?
I think it's the one towards the middle. Fuel temp is in the FIP.No as don't have access to Diagnostics, is the EDC sensor the green one in the block above the FIP?
Update:
This weekend I went through and checked everything, each plug is getting the same reading 11.7 volt and they are less than a month old NGK plugs, bench tested they all glow!
Checked all leak off pipes, again these are all reasonably new, I had fitted silicone, but as I have switched back to diesel I changed them for rubber. Checked all along the fuel lines, I did find a small crack in the diesel return pipe at the lift pump end so repaired this.
This morning:
Charged battery, did the plugs twice before cranking just to make sure, spins over sound like it wants to catch but nothing, keep trying and eventually it needs a jump start, few cranks later and fired up, big cloud of smoke :-/ also noticed while driving that when pulling away at a roundabout or kickdown again I get a lot of smoke

The sensor near the FIP is not supposed to be green it should be blue or brown. Blue NSC100820 with aircon. Brown STC2253 without aircon. That is for dash gauge. The ECU temp sensor should be green STC2299 and fitted towards middle of head between injectors three and four.
Thanks, so next question is am I able to test this? hot water measure resistance?
You could but the sensor are all different. Brown only has one pin, blue and green have two and different sensing values. If the sensor between injectors three and four is not green you need to fit one that is. Likewise the sensor near FIP it needs to be blue or brown depending if you have aircon fitted. They would not be colour coded if they could be interchanged.
Sorry for confusion
I have the blue one closest to FIP (have A/C)
green one is closer to injector 3

They are meant to be blue for the gauge but the green one works
Looking at bank Johnny left one gauge middle one ecu
And let me guess no black one to the right but a blanking plug .supposedly air con

What a good idea, we could have front, rear or all four wheel steering just like a ManitouWonder why they are different part numbers then. Going on that theory the front and back axles should be interchangeable different part numbers but both axles so all is good.
