My missus has been ringing about to sort out a winch and bumper package for my discovery

I think we have narrowed it down to either a Champion c9500 hs
or the Goodwinch goldfish tds 9.5
both will be around the £700 with the bumper and all the fittings fairlead etc

but is one any bettter than the other and if so why?

Thanks in advance
Matt

Do you do lots of competitions and hard off roading?

If not why are you spending such silly money on a winch? You might as well by a cheap winch (such as Winchmax or similar) off eBay. It will be a bit slower, but, will recover you from everything that a 'normal occassional off-roader and laner' will need and not break the bank.

Tbh I was going to get a cheapo winch but was warned away from them, not doing hard offloading at the moment!
+ part of the reason I am spending a bit more is cos the last thing I want is it packing up on me when I need it most!

A cheap winch won't pack up on you unless you abuse it and don't maintain it.

Had mine a while now and it's never come close to letting me down - operates under water perfectly.

I'm just of the opinion that there is no point wasting money on something you, in reality, will rarely use.

I've got a Winchmax on mine - however, i am fairly sure these are the same as most eBay winches, i think Winchmax just buy them in and stick their name on them then up the price a bit more than the other eBay sellers.

I'd personally get one with plasma rope if i got one now, i have steel wire on mine and regretted it.

I've got a 9.5 Goldfish, Dyneema rope. Got it at Billing from David Bowyer, does a great deal at the shows, saves the VAT cost at least.

Works brilliantly, very happy.

Buy quality, buy once.

What sort of a deal at the shows?

I want one, with the Dyneema rope and all. I fitted one for a friend, and was very impressed. I can happily wait until the shows for a good deal.

Anyhow, I always carry a tirfor, and always will, just incase.

But Wiltshire Landyman will be along to tell you to get a Warn 8274.

Goldfish 9.5, Dyneema, Stainless Fairlead, Extended Battery Leads, Remote Control £ 526 all in.

In the box you still get the wire rope and roller fairlead, so you can flog that.

Will wait until the shows then and hope he has another offer on!
