p38 diesel fault code 33

If your Nanocom gives an airflow fault, then it might be reasonable to draw the conclusion that it would appear as flash code 33 since there is no airflow fault listed in the flash codes. for you to get an airflow fault, there must be a code. Can you post a screen shot, I'd like to know why it doesn't appear on Faultmate.

I am no good at screen shots Keith, if i find time will disconnect MAF and try it again. Also will disconnect mod valve and try and see if that brings anything up. There are no codes listed on Nanocom for EGR diag. Having EGR disconnected is of no consequence to anything other than emissions. Which the ECU does not measure anyway. Later more complexed EGR variants certainly measure operation but the system on the M51 doesn't. Can see the ECU knowing that something is disconnected but that is as far as it goes i think. It certainly doesn't put the engine in limp mode as suggested by our friend. Think we both know that much.

I must do the latest updates on my Faultmate, I know the car runs fine with the MAF disconnected apart from a small increase in fuel consumption, certainly no limp mode.

Ok Nanocom with engine at idle MAF disconnected. Air flow fault, current logged. Mass airflow value invalid "To low". No fault code. With modulation valve disconnected no fault. With vac pipe disconnected no fault. :);)

Annoying that faultmate does not give that info. But it does sort of confirm that there is no fault condition with it unplugged.

I think when you disconnect the vacuum hose, you get an error. I had to test it. but when you disconnect the maf, there is direct a fault code. I remeber from the earlier, that when egr is not working you get an error after hundreds of km (because diificult the check for the dde software.
To check what i say, i go to try it. i let you know.

by the way i found an m51 selfdiag faultlist. longer then the one listed by blackbox... I did not check this list is it is correct, but there are more faultcodes ( except my 33 haha)

Read my post #64, there is no error with vac hose disconnected. There is no error when mod valve is disconnected. There is a low air flow error when MAF is disconnected. There is no code 33 for the M51 diesel. With the three levels of control DDE 2, DDE 2.1 or DDE 2.2. Of course you found a longer list but it's not for your ECU is it?

it is a longer list. they say it is m51.... i do not know if the list is correct. but longet then the faultmate list.
but still wondering i have 33. by the way the car is 100% Original. latest diesel version. New delivered in Belgium. the only mod is closed egr valve
i go to re-open egr and will see what happens.... now after reset and some hudreds miles 33 is coming still in. let you know if something change

That long list is most likely M57, CAN bus is the big givaway, there is no CAN bus on the P38/M51 diesel.

Wish you would listen, there are several version of DDE (EDC) used on the M51 engine, NONE of them have a fault code 33. And the latest one that you posted a list for is NOT used on the P38. Have you ever wondered why BMW injection pump electrics don't work on a P38? There is NO CODE 33 on the pumps used by BMW nor the pumps used by Land rover.

I think the M51 was used in CANbus BMW models, E38 7 series for example, which is where I suspect the long list came from. OP doesn't seem to realise that the implementation of the engine in the P38 is different to that in the BMW.

That would be a totally different EDC then.:) I still think the list is M57 as it has things like boost control that don't exist on the M51.

The M51tu has a list of fault codes longer than an MPs expenses list. Not used on the P38 though i don't think. There are several versions of BMW DDE starting at 1 and as far as i can find going to DDE 2.2. It would be interesting to find out which version is used on the P38, but that info i cannot find up to present. But it would seem from my searches that only DDE 2 and DDE 2.1 were used on the M51. But don't quote me on that.

DDE goes at least to 3. I'm certain that the M51tu was never used on any version of the P38.
