Newbie laning and recovery training - the cheap option

LOL and he is completely responsible for me insisting on carrying two spares tyres all the time. I think he got those punctures on my first ever laning trip
 
Disco 300 TDi
AT tyres even if they are very worn lol
recovery rope and rear tow bar (not needed up to point)
CB yes
Been off road many time pay n play and green lanes
Covered in lots of scratches so not bothered
Harder the better
 
Vehicle: Disco 2 TD5 2001 (there's a CDL in there, but only if you get at it with a spanner so probably TC only)

Tyres: AT (Toyo Open Country)

Recovery points: Front towing eye. Rear tie downs which "may" be used as per handbook

Recovery equipment: None (footpump & set of jump leads)

Level of experience: Minimal (been laning a couple of times what I've posted on LZ). Know what low box is for but would appreciate tips & tricks.

Scratchy or non scratchy: Perferably non scratchy, but how scratchy is scratchy? :D

CB Radio: No

Noob ;)

If I show you a few pics from the trips I have done, it might give you some idea. These are sort of think which is on the route, although the worst can be bypassed I think the newbies might have slightly different expectations which is why I am asking :D:D:D

Hmm.. well the odd bit of leafy tree stems seems oK. The rocky bit in the second pic would be good fun, but I don't fancy scraping the side of the Disco like in the last pic.

Brilliant, that puts my mind at rest, there is only one lane I need an optional bypass and its an easy fix. I think you are allowed to trim trees but Paul will tell you. That particular rocky bit isn't in it, but there are some similar ones.

Just didn't want to have done the wrong route :D:D:D:D:D

Oh and I wasn't meant to scrape the side of the Defender, you can do it without, I just made a slight error last time I did it :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Yup, you are allowed to abate an obstruction on any Byway. I've moved concrete blocks, trees, bushes, dead cars, and all sorts of tipped ****e ... ;)

The only issue is that you can't go equipped or with the express intention of removing a particular obstacle. Hence why, as a school caretaker I happen to leave a small bowsaw and axe in the boot, ropes and stuff are already there for recovery!

Haha it's hard work learning with arc. Much easier with mig ;)

What size welder ya got and what thickness steel you welding?

Lol. Tell me about it. Another hour past and I'm still crap!!!

Im using some 5mm angle and 5 mm flat plate. I can get the weld on one or the other but I just can't get them to join.

The welder is a arcweld 140.

I've found a garage in Calverley who will do it for £40. Sold...
