sounds like easy 98 quid to me!! I thought you trusted the bloke! I honestly don't thing you can ever trust any garage 100% they all need to make a living, even so called friends even family in the garage trade have ripped me off, that's why I built a garage in my garden!!! shame I can't do mot's!!

I now know who to ask if I need some rear seatbelt mounting bolts now though!...cos you're not using them! :rolleyes:

Gab, my MOT tester was gobsmacked when I drove the bobtail down to the garage to book it in for next tuesday...He didnt think Id bother replacing the engine as last time I spoke to him I was havin all the misfiring issues with the old engine so thought I wouldve just got rid.
Was a good excuse for him to give the motor a look over and have a chinwag about Land Rovers before having to go back in to finish off a job on a Ford KA or similar small ****box he seems to get lots of.

I am over 65, drive a Range Rover and tow a caravan. I am also an ex diesel MECHANIC (not fitter). I drove 32 ton artics for a living so have plenty of experience. I do not ride the clutch, my caravan is not made from baked bean tins (most older people own more up to date caravans) and caravanning is not a cheap holiday (even in Skegness). I do not drive around at 10mph, I have never tried to do a 'you' turn, however I have managed to do plenty of 'U' turns. I do not clog up the roads, my car is more than capable of towing my caravan, not always the case I would grant you. In my experience there are many MOT testers who I would not pay in washers, like the one who failed my Disco for a 'dirty' tail light. And I do believe the function of the MOT (which I remember its inception) is no longer about safety but about emissions supporting the, at best, dodgy science of climate change.

Atleast its done now for another year mate.
Some garages charge near 100 quid for that delivery/collection service...Id just treat it as that charge, and they fitted some **** for free for ya

it's all about making money! probably the main reason all this emmission stuff came in, do any of the governments actually believe this climate rubbish, the world has been evolving for millions of years it's been going hot and cold hot and cold, If driving my range rover 4.6 is really helping to warm up the climate then i better drive it more cos it's bloody freezing here!!
come on range rover owners, pedal to the metal and bring on the summer!!!

Yeah , thats the way I am looking at it, the forman there who is older than the owner isnt too bad with the su carbs if I ever take em apart further than I should so I dont wanna rock the boat. also when your running 4 cars like me the collection and return makes a big differnace.

also I trust they will only rip me off through ignorance rather than deliberatly :p

was i pointing a finger towards you? no! Glad you are a ex diesel mechanic ( not fitter) i assume your later remark of " In my experience there are many MOT testers who I would not pay in washers! was aimed towards me .... as i said about me doing mots for "another garage".. granted yes i do mot's i also blue print formula 1 race engine's , i am also master technician at my specialist were i have been for well over a decade now and iam also master diagnostic technician with with well over 50 qualifications in different diagnostic areas from the later classic range rovers to all the fibre optics on rr sports disco3/4 and the later ranger rovers. so as you can see i am a technical engineer ( not just a mot tester )

Glad to see that you still have your wits about you to pull me up on my grammar mistakes i am sure u ( or is it you? ) will find plenty in the above text.

Well said enery.:D I'm well over 65, tow a caravan, can reverse it into confined spaces or back down the road and am well able to keep up with the flow of traffic.
As for UK MOT testers, in my experience, many are just not up to the job or plain dishonest. When I lived in the UK I knew of one where the local garage used to phone up with a registration number etc and the certificate was delivered later that day without the car going near the test station.:eek:
I have little knowledge of diesel systems but Im learning, my speciality is electronics and air driven systems, hence my interest in the EAS. :)

that was true a year or two ago , but since the introduction of online mot seems to have tightened up ,

cant be arsed to read all the way through thread again,but these changes are active now..atleast the tow bar bit is,and according to mot man cat and other bits too..

you seen the new mot cert!!!just a bit of plain a4 printed out on a normal printer!..still only £45 ..
