I kid you not, I was looking at a portable one, but it was heated and everything! Only 20 pounds, and came with a makeshift shower cubicle. Looked hilarious. I want to take a shower in the middle of a desert... just to say i can! :p

Need to sort my spares/kit list and see what I'm actually taking!!! Got the CB now.... a bit ahead of time, but i think it'll get used! :)

Yes, has both. :) Supposedly works well. We will put that to the test! :D

Only have a mag mount aerial for now though, as no time before Saturday to route a proper one. :(

Chris knows more about this, but I don't think there is anything wrong with mag mounts. If I remember correctly Chris had a mag mount on his Discovery on the last trip. I have one I use on a Sprinter and it works fine.
I think it depends on how large the base is compared to the length of the aerial. When going over rough terrain the wip of the aerial can make the magnetic base come off if its not up to the job.
I have a hand held CB connected to a roof mounted aerial. The problem I had was the speaker in the hand held could not be heard over all the noise of the Defender going over rough terrain with the windows open etc. I have now installed a loudspeaker and checked out the aerial with a SWR meter to make sure I am getting the maximum out of it. Adjusting the settings to the SWR meter has also made a big difference in the range and clarity.

Mine says "UK USE ONLY" on the top, but I can change it from EU/UK on the front

I think that "UK USE ONLY" is normal to comply with some regulation. Most CB's these days have 40 EU channels and 40 UK ones. As long as we can all connect to one channel. Last time we used a UK channel to make sure we didn't get too much interference for other people out there.

Well it looks like my CB is bust, so I guess it is a moot point! It seems to work fine, but just doesn't pick anything up!

I will take a trip to Maplins tomorrow and see what I can find.

Thanks Mike, I will have a look. I'm more planning on putting one on the gutter so that it stays there and doesn't fall off/interfere with any roof rack! Though I need to wire it in properly and out of the way. :) Need to check SWR as well. Not that I have much clue about that, James will be getting quizeed on saturday.

Yeah, just get one in Maplins, they seem to work. I think i voided my warranty when i chopped all the plugs off.

Remember you will have to take it off and not alert the authorities in Morocco when you go through the port that you have a CB. They are not legal in Morocco. Although once through the port they don't usually bother. Mag mounts are quick and easy to hide. I have an aerial mounted onto my roof rack which I can unscrew when going through the port.

I was unaware of that, so thank you! I don't want to go to Moroccan prison.

I think i will just make sure i have one that i can get on and off easily! :)

Yup nothing wrong with mag mounts, assuming its not a Fender, they don't stick to them at all well.

Mine sits on Larry and I quite often talk to people in North America or Russia etc on it with a 5w radio, just not a CB.
