Yep - ignore the bonnet off photo and the fact that I was too lazy to climb onto the 110 like the others at the WS border - bet you wish you were going James!!.
I do It's a long time until 2016...

That looks epic, i can't wait for this. I am so excited, really enjoy travelling but i'm not a great holiday fan.
I could get addicted, the prep is almost just as exciting. I'm sad, I know, but this is what I've always wanted to do. Would love to do a full Africa tour.
I just read through the forum blog thing, it looks great.
I like the prep too, but am too limited by money at the moment. I'm still trying to design racking for the back once I work out where I am keeping everything.
I still have:
Racking
Steering guard
Jerry can holders
Fridge
Spare parts
Safe
Inflator
Dual batteries
On my list, plus I need to do something with the seats as they give me a bad back at the moment.
Plus a bucket load of soundproofing. I added extra door seals which has made a big difference, but lots left to do.

That list isn't too bad! I think mine will be longer.... Though i'm going to draw up a list to get the D2 to its former glory and then everything I need for the trip. Put it up here and let the seasoned veterans take a gander, make sure I'm barking up the right tree!
Though we need to keep up the laning, stress test them before then! No nasty surprises. I'd prefer to kill it in Derbyshire than in the middle of the desert!
You can try and stress test them but I use mine as a working landy and I tow a trailer quite often and it didn't show any signs of breaking but as soon as we got down there it broke.i will try and remember to take a few extra spares next time and listen to people as they told me to take a spare diff and i didn't as I thought it was too much weight and thought I wouldn't need it.
Haha, that is true. We could try a weekend laning trip somewhere maybe?
I'm going to try to put the roof tent on when we have been laning and see how it all fits. I have signed up for the Portugal trip in June, so that will be a good test of all the kit.
Sounds good. I'm keeping my eyes out for a roof rack and roof tent. Don't mind the quick one that was suggested here mind! Cheaper and probably easier!
I'd love to go this year, but no time!!
That tuff-trek tent we got seems good, though not fitted it yet as laning would ruin it!
Today I have been soundproofing and fitting some tie down points. Still not sure where I'm going to fit everything...
Ignore the sub, its only there until I work out where the rear speakers are going.
What if we fancy a bit of a disco in the desert? Then you'll need it!
I have the urge to plan.... as it's fun buying stuff. Need to get CB done too, useful for this and laning!
My better half is still primed, though she's sad about the lack of toilets and showers. Haha.
If the trip is similar to the last one we did stop at several campsites and hotels which are not expensive, showers and swimming pools were available.
I think that will make her happier! I don't mind, though can imagine it would be nice.
I'm gonna buy Sarah one of those £5 bags with a shower spout on from ebay, what more could she ask for?!
Erm.... no thank you...How about this,
