Trailer tests were scrapped months ago, just got an instant upgrade, for free!

Good for you would suggest that if you have just got it on-line by checking...dont send your current licence for update as you wont see it for a while...big big back log...
 
Its done automatically, its the new standard licence, everyone can now tow 3500kg, no need to get anything updated, I just woke up one day, as did millions of others, with the ability to now tow 3500kg.

You sure you can tow that amount???

(Unless you have higher catalogues) thought you licence allows you to drive up to a Luton van(3500kgs) so maximum mass (motor & trailer) 4250kgs

I am afraid he is right Phil. In the rush to get more barely qualified HGV drivers on the road they scrapped the Trailer test to free up the Testers.
Expecting carnage as even before the changes we dealt with about 20 trailer crashes each year :eek::eek::eek:

So not only can they now tow trailers but can run over the weight allowed on the licence ?
(they scrapped the trailer part so you could go from car to attic training. Speeds training up by 6 weeks)
 
Looking for tips on load limits. This ambulance, its got 10 spline axles (stock 200tdi disco?)
No payload mentioned, and I have asked the seller all these questions.
What is the payload? If its the same as a normal disco, are there upgrades I can do to increase the payload?
Also, the plan is to put a really big lift, one that would be indecent on a shorter wheelbase vehicle. Basically, I want a disco, but 16% bigger in all directions. Can I fit wider axles?
 
As this is a special vehicle it might be on the vin tag.

As for for lift kit… no matter how high the body goes up the diff height from the floor remains the same. So are you going to change the tyres?

changing axles.. keep it standard you can get parts off the shelf easily.
 
Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, basically, picture a lightly modified 3 door discovery, so 2 inch suspension lift, 33 inch tyres, etc. Now put it in the photocopier at 116%, thats the idea at least.
That would mean some 37 inch tyres, etc. Basically getting an adequate breakover angle. Ill have to measure the groundclearance on mine, then add 2 inches (since mine is stock) and then add 16% (so to be clear, H is the standard height, so Im going to find 1.16x(H+2))
How big of a suspension lift is available for disco 1/rrc(/defender?) I presume Ill need castor correction / radius arms etc as well

Having a bit of a rethink. A friend of mine fancies buying my disco to turn it into a 100" single cab, given, according to him, a 90 is too small and a 110 is too big. But Ide say its down to the cost of a V8 defender. Anyway - since the collection of bits left over would be a 110 chassis and a D1 body, could a single cab disco be made from this lot? Also, Im thinking a 2.5 td P38 engine would be ideal, unless anyone can advise otherwise
 
Whatever you end up doing, it sounds like a fun project if you have the ability or are prepared to learn in anger.. with lots of new swear words invented along the way!

Yes it will fit.
Is it legal… you need to weld to the chassis so SVA would be needed.

1 way round this is to build a roll cage/space frame & bolt to the outriggers. Make no changes to the chassis and all should be good. All fixings to be done to the cage though
 
Would that work with a double cab on a 130 chassis? And why? Its a good idea, although Im not exactly sure of the logistics

Will landrover body work fit… probally not all of it.

Zero welding experience, I dont even own a welding machine, but I have a friend who is a very experienced welded.
12 months? Thats alot. So a single cab disco on a defender chassis doesnt line up nicely? The (very brief) plan is to buy a defender 110 hi cap, and my discovery, and to take the body off my discovery, put the cab of the defender on the disco chassis (been done many times, is well understood, and quite easy?) And then with the leftovers, to chop the disco body (easy) put some kind of rear bullhead in (kit available on ebay, or try and weld the bulkhead from another pickup, e.g. ford ranger, l200, etc in to fill the hole) and to put that on the 110 chassis. One of them will use the hi cap bed, the other will have a nice custom tray/canopy/whatever. So, if the defender body fits on the disco chassis, surely the disco body must fit the defender chassis?

Neither bodies will fit without welding to the chassis.
Have you searched SVA and understood this?
