Okay, so Im thinking of chucking a cheeky bid on the ambulance, but that means selling my current one, a low milage, manual 3.9 V8i, so does anyone fancy making me an offer?
Feel free to post or PM me any questions.

Oh and by the way you posted the wrong pic thats not an ambulance can we see your current manual 3.8i ambulance pic please..lol

Mine used to be LPG, Im not sure if Ive priced it fairly or not, but its better than a TD5 in every way (except mpg and boot space, but who cares!) and a td5 in this condition would be silly money!

Not sure you are right about that.
As we have 2 Series ! Discos and a Disco 2 I can tell you that you really do get used to the boot space if you use it like we do.
As for "Who cares" when it comes to mpg, er,.......... most people!
BTW what did you do with the LPG kit? Or was it taken off before you got it?

LPG kit was taken off before I got it, Ive got some of the bits, I havnt got a tank, but I think Ive got the other main bits (the bit that turns LPG to propane gas, vaporiser? Evaporator?, And some other bits, almost certainly useless junk, very old by the looks of it)

As for D1 vs D2, the only advantage I see to having a D2 is the extra boot space, and the body is less prone to rusting. Thats it.
As for advantages to the D1, well, the chassis is less prone to rusting, theyve all got a center diff lock, the angles are better, the diesel is submersible, no air suspension, ace, ABS etc to go wrong, and, IMO, the D1 looks better overall (although I will admit the facelift D2 headlights look very nice)

Fur enuff!
Mine is a pretty good system, not the best but pretty good.
Put it this way, I can't tell the difference in performance between the V8 on petrol and that on LPG, though that may not be a good thing!
I still am sure the V8 is more powerful than any of the others,, by far!

How much power does the V8 in the D2 make? Also, manual or auto? My 3.9 manual is substantially quicker than my friends auto 4.0 D2
(Fun fact, the 3.9 and 4.0 have exactly the same displacement)

I can speak happily here as I have both and by and large I agree with you. The 300 tdi is pretty well unburstable and also easily tunable. Just changing the exhaust for a sports one made a big difference to performance with no change in mpg.
BUT, if you want to kip in a Disco, it really needs to be a D2, and the AUX plug in the boot of the D2 is dead handy for a cool box if you are travelling a long way.
Before Brexit we used to travel from the UK to our place in the Tarn with a cargo of British sausages, bacon, gammon steaks etc, in cool boxes. We'd have one in the boot, one behind the front seat and the wife would have one in her car. Now we can't do that as anything containing meat or dairy is banned, even feckin dog food for God's sake.
The TD5 tows our big box trailer easier than our 300 tdi ever did. and as it has all the gubbins in the transfer box for the diff lock I could easily get it sorted should I wish. but I do hate all the electrickery that goes with the TD5. As with all cars, when it's working it's great, but when it isn't...:mad::mad::mad:

My V8 is in a late model D1 so I don't know. Manual, although first gear is more or less redundant.
The naming of the 3.9 engine is weird but just a LR marketing thing I think.

Yes, Ive just realised that almost every argument of D1 vs D2 is used in D2 vs D3, and so on, its just where you draw the line with the electronic toys...
I mean, a series 2 is rated to tow 3500kg, just like a defender, disco, rr, all the big LRs, so the progress really is only in refinement/comfort etc, there really isnt much you could do in a brand new range rover, or any other LR, that you couldnt do in a 1950s land rover, if you try hard enough!
Yes, thats the reason for wanting the LWB, kit it out into a proper camper, I cant sleep in the back of a D2 or D3, let alone a D1! So a 2nd battery, and a little fridge and a microwave. Could go all fancy with an electric hob, solar panels etc, but thats a bit optimistic!

Towing, complicated rules etc, and very much dependant on where you live. For me, its 750kg unbraked, and 3500kg braked, and within the manufacturer specified limits, and with a tow vehicle no heavier than 3500kg.
In australia, you need fancy brakes to tow over 2000kg, and with those fancy brakes, D1 can tow 4000kg, D3 can tow 7000kg, iirc

I take it you've passed your trailer test then...

I take it that its been a while since you had a read up on the rules?
Trailer tests were scrapped months ago, just got an instant upgrade, for free!
Apparently its somehow supposed to help with the HGV driver shortage (I think the justification was it would open up more HGV tests)
