really like those plastic ones, haven't seen them before.

Is it possible to fit a aux 45L tank on a 110, without losing the space under the front seats?

opinions, opinions, so many differ. Some say around euroland-standard 80l tank and 1 carrier, north africa-standard 80l tank and 2 carriers, others say in africa you should look at carrying enough for 1000miles, for me thats a minimum of 200ltrs, a load of fuel/weight and space taken.

That's only a full tank and 5 jerrycans. Wouldn't have thought you'd need to travel 1000 miles to find oil of some description even if you had to mix veg oil in.

redhand has a point. what route are you travelling across africa? fuel can be found in the most unlikely places. Im no expert, but i would have thought unless your going wide off piste, 6-700mile range should suffice. fit a 40l aux tank in the wing and carry 2 cans. job done.

Pikey, the dutch use scepter cans and THOSE look like the jobbies :) legend, im dropping them an email now. thanks dude!

The scepter ones are very reliable , but get a few extra seal washers , as they tend to give up quite early on , esp if you use with bio diesel .
For water the ex mod are more than adequate , and if you stick one up on the roof rack in sun they can provide a nice warm shower supply pretty quickly. I made a shower head from water can rose and nylon water pipe fitting you can regulate the flow by how much you open the large cap as you screw the shower head to the bleeder cap boss.:)

nice tip tracman.

I tried using a solar shower ratchet'd to the roof rack in morocco, but it never got hot. my thinking was tht the flow of air passing over it cooled the water rather than the sun heating it. does the same apply for the can when vehicle is in motion? i can see it working at camp/when stationary but it didnt work for us when on the move (every day) :)

Great reply and info Gents, thx.

My 110 came with 4 jcans fixed onto the roof rack, i know, I know, but a roof tent and other things on the rack, another 80Ltrs/kilos doesn't help.

But the suspenision has been completely upgraded to heavy duty and with a 50Ltr upright water tank, and 2 20ltr carriers in the back and the rest of the gear, it seems to handle well enough.

i like the idea of water cans on the roof to heat-up, I've also have used a solar shower, like griff said, ok but not brilliant.

No route yet fixed, but have done the alps/pyreenes a couple of times, just want to travel to africa, whether it's morrocco onto timbucto or tunisia, yet to make my mind up.

thx again, mark

you wont need the 1000mile range in morocco. my 90 holds 50l in the tank and we took 2 jerry cans. only, nearly got caught out once, so put half a can in. thats all we used.

so whats that.. 250... 125.

375 mile range. 400 will do you with maybe 15-20% ontop of that

G

and when ya used all ya fuel in morroco you can fill then jerry cans with drugs and buy a brand new land rover when ya get back into the uk !!!

did cross my mind :D but the man at the border poked everything with a big screwdriver :( both mine were fillled with diesel. cheaper there at 40p/litre than spains £1/litre.

I had two black mod j/cans on roof laid on side at front (above cab ) and they used to cook up well (in OZ) also RTT . My 110 has its fuel in tanks , rear main and ex mod tank under drivers seat , and aux tank under rear wheel arch(inline with filler) enough for about 700 miles (V8:() would be double for a Tdi . Carrying fuel externally is a bit problematic legally in 1st world, diesel is safe enough, petrol a different matter, dont ever carry petrol inside .HTSH:cool:

Im hoping to fit my rear TD5 tank this year which will give me the extra 60litres. then i can carry 2 cans of water inside. the aux fuel tank will help free up valuable space in my 90.
