OK i revise that comment:

the jerry can on the nearside is the steel fuel one and the off side are the plastic water cans, if some one slammed into the rear they would both burst expelling the liquid contents onto the offendeing invaders hot engine which could result in an external combustion of said liquid resulting in large water filled blisters, bright red skin with black patches and a lengthy stay in hospital or even longer stay in the graveyard !

personally i think external fuel cans are dangerous and at risk of theft. :cool:
 
In my army days with Landies, we almost never had any fuel cans in the truck. We carried all the fuel cans in the little trailer that was hopping along behind.

That way one didn't stink of petrol all the time, and one could smoke a few King Eddies without worrying about being burned to death at 50 mph.
