OK i revise that comment:

the jerry can on the nearside is the steel fuel one and the off side are the plastic water cans, if some one slammed into the rear they would both burst expelling the liquid contents onto the offendeing invaders hot engine which could result in an external combustion of said liquid resulting in large water filled blisters, bright red skin with black patches and a lengthy stay in hospital or even longer stay in the graveyard !

personally i think external fuel cans are dangerous and at risk of theft.

it is but its a bad idea as they are a pig to get up and down, they make the landy too top heavy and tend to smash into branches and make a mess

In my army days with Landies, we almost never had any fuel cans in the truck. We carried all the fuel cans in the little trailer that was hopping along behind.

That way one didn't stink of petrol all the time, and one could smoke a few King Eddies without worrying about being burned to death at 50 mph.

not to worry

you see it in the mags and think its great. but at 20kg each the weight soon adds up. hit a dusty corregated corner too fast and you will soon be over. keep the weight low and between/over the axles.

CharlesY, dont suppose you know where i can get some Scepter jerry cans from do you? the yanks and canadian military use them. plastic, tough as nuts. cant seem to source any in the UK but i met a bloke in Morocco who got some from an army surplus store. but i never come across them, been looking for ages now.

the standard plastic 20L water cans are around a tenner in RJ Kings in Farrington Gurney too.
