Engines are bombproof bodies rot.

I've never understood the compulsion to get top power out of something that handles like an old tractor, believe me the power they have is ample for how they drive. :p

But i'd avoid regardless you're better off with something that isn't a pile of shít to begin with.
Yeah pretty sure they rot just as bad as discos on the body.
OP you need to write down a tick list instead of thoughts and ideas banging around your head. My head does the same!
Start at the beginning and get the facts so you know what your dealing with. Have you got compression, is engine junk, is body junk, etc etc.

Well, its getting on for 2 years since it last drove, and its a year since its MoT ran out.
It didnt have any advisories for rust, so if it does need any welding, itll only be minor, but then I cant weld, so thats more money Id have to pour down it.
Compression is actually not that relevant, the electronics are so far gone that they may as well be trying to run a food blender. Obviously if I decided I wanted to tackle swapping all the electronics, Id do a compression test first. But I dont, I simply dont want to spend howerer long it would take me (ME, not a profesional, using only basic hand tools, groveling outside) to swap all those bits, and then put it back together again and have it running.
Then even if I did get it running, Id need to get it through an MoT, and I know itll need tyres, and since its sat for so long, itll probably need brakes too, and fresh fluids in everything. Then Id have to tax it and insure it, and spend the 50p/mile or so in petrol, and before you know it Ive just burnt another £2000 and however many weeks of free time, and I bet it would break in some other way shortly thereafter.
Hopefully your efforts at uni aren't suffering
They are. I failed quantum mechanics, dropped out of uni for a second time, and started all over again doing open uni, and its really boring and my life is relatively crap compared to most other people my age in the UK. Obviously Im not being blown up, nor am I freezing or starving to death, so Im very fortunate in that regard, but its fair to say that life hasnt gone as easilly as Id hoped.

Words from a dying man.

Life ain't easy. For anyone. Remember that. Stop comparing. You view others lives through their highlight reels and yours through the worst of reel.

Break that habit now. And the Land Rover habit. Both are doing you no good. 🙂

What do you WANT to do in life, not what you THINK you should do?
