Morning All. :D
Feeling a bit better today, a reasonable kip was enjoyed. :)
The worst bit about the chest infection for me is when I get stridor and cannot breathe in.
It is very alarming, its as if you have a mucus plug completely blocking your airway. Very difficult not to panic (which makes it worse).
Anyway, the worst appears to be over and I am on the mend. :)
I hope you all have a really good day. :D

I am feeling a bit "achy" as I have spent time this morning kneeling on the ground leaning forward into the footwell of the mini to get at the steering column pinch bolt. Got it out eventually. Extracted the column from the car to examine it.
As I had hoped, the splined cup at the bottom of the inner column shaft had worn out and most of the splines were worn flat.
I could put my pinkie finger in there and feel next to nothing of splines, only a vague memory of where they had once been.
Conversely, the splines on the rack pinion are in fine fettle.

So the nice man that quoted me £700 to drop the front sub-frame and replace the entire rack etc. etc. can stand down. :)
A £44 pound second-hand column is on its way from e-bay. Either the inner column will be swapped-over OR the splined ends will just be cut off and welded on. But, as I say my contortional exertions have left me a bit achy. I will need a restorative as soon as the sun is over the yardarm. ;)
