Oh dear, sorry about that!.... that maybe some gift-horses should be dentally examind".
I have just got back from taking "GWEN" the mini for an MOT.
It did not go well. One of the things I had noticed on day 1 was confirmed.
The steering is knackered. Symptom is that when you are not moving and you try to turn the steering wheel you can get a few clunks & bangs out of it as the steering wheel turns but the wheels do not alter their steering angle.
Which means either the splines on the column are shot, or the teeth on the rack are shot, or both.
It's raining and I don't fancy pulling things apart in the rain.![]()
Maybe a pinch bolt is not tight enough? (assuming there is one at the column / steering rack connection).Which means either the splines on the column are shot, or the teeth on the rack are shot, or both.![]()
The pinch-bolt was as tight as it can be (almost had the the 2 inside faces touching).Maybe a pinch bolt is not tight enough? (assuming there is one at the column / steering rack connection).
Sorry to hear herself is not fully recovered. Best Wishes to you both.Things not good at Chateau Steamer.
W in bed and still with ongoing probs re her guts.
Went and collected a bit of jewellery she had won on the auction, wrote a cheque for it and stupidly put the amount first and the payee second. I do this sometimes as that is how you do it in Frogland where I am more often writing cheques.
I pointed this out to them but told them that the bank should accept it as I have done this in the past with no repercussions. After all it is still the same info, just in another order.
This a.m. the wimmins who was sat next to the blokey who took the cheque and who printed off the invoice for me, rang me to tell me what I had done. I did point out what I had said to her and she accepted this and presented it to the bank. While I was out she rang up to say the bank wouldn't accept this.I looked it up ont tinternet and apparently banks will often accept this and other sorts of minor errors like misspellings and even numbers and letter not quite matching, but at their discretion. So it is just some flipping jobsworth there. Anyway the auction house accepted W's debit card over the phone as she is such a good customer. This is something they don't usually do, for some reason.
Then had a little road rage incident when I went to get petrol. Some richardhead followed me into the petrol station to row about me "moving into his lane" on the roundabout. He was behind me when he hooted, then decided to force his way up beside me.
I did point this out to him, rather heatedly, plus pointing out that there are no lane markings on that roundabout so he was talking nonsense. But apparently I am still "mental".
I hope the day gets better and will be good for you all.
All the best.

Steering wheel splines ok?The pinch-bolt was as tight as it can be (almost had the the 2 inside faces touching).
AFAIK yes, I think from what I could see, you turn the wheel and the the pinch-bolt can be seen turning at the bottom of the column and there is a clunk-clunk-clunk, but the roadwheels don't move. So either the pinch-bolt is slipping on the stub splines, or the internal end inside the rack is slipping, whichever it is, sommat's FUBAR'd.Steering wheel splines ok?
