It was actually very good - despite it being a disco 2 😁
In fact, they really let you test the capability and put it through its paces. I was impressed… and it was running on aired-down road tyres!

They were doing some training there with London Fire Brigade (they do off road training for all the emergency services). They had a new bit of kit… like a jacked up transit on steroids. It looked wrong though… needed bigger wheels. Confirmed when we got back for a mug of tea in the afternoon to hear that one of them had got it stuck!
I nearly offered to go get my hippo 2 and pull it out. But there were sausage sarnies out by then, so….

Then they brought out a trails car for hill climbs. Glad to say I did not hit any gates on my go. Jeez those things can climb, but tricky to get used to with the hand-brakes for traction/downhill. Much fun!!!

Re the Disco 2. Auto or manual? Did it have Centre diff Lock or not? How do you feel the traction control behaved? Ditto the Hill Descent Control?

I've only off-roaded my Disco 1 TDi, manual with cdl. But I do have a Disco 2 auto with CDL not connected up. So my questions are serious.;)
If you wouldn't mind.

Afternoon folks :).

Very frosty start today. I was actually up before M, let her sleep it is a rare thing that she is not up before me 09:30 when she rolled up, first thing she said was why didnt you wake meo_O:rolleyes:.

Got the choke on the quad sorted(ish) yesterday. Turns out lube works great, if you use it:oops:. Just a bit weird how it can go from working then not in a few days. Anyway used it today and the lube is working as it has worked through overnight.

We are now burning nearly 2 Ikea bags of wood a day, but not lighting it till early afternoon. still bright sunny days unlike the UK it seems.

It had CDL, which was engaged. Then simply running in low ratio, using only 1st and 2nd for everything. Plenty of grunt, no clutch required, and very controllable on throttle, hence very grippy.

Another plumbering day. Outside tap is a bit worn and leaks a bit, so need to change it. But first, had to change the stop tap under the kitchen sink that isolates the outside tap, on account it didn't do much in the way of stopping. Used a stop tap which has been in my spares box for many, many years, took it to bits, cleaned and checked condition - looked good to go. And added a double check valve for good measure. Water back on, and have a tiny drip at the outside tap when the inside stop tap is fully closed. Might have to squander a couple of sovs on a new one after all . Maybe ----

It's a lovely sunny afternoon
Busy wiring likkle lights upon me wings :)
Be nice to get one side lit up today,
Stopped for a brew an a biskwit :D
Got one side fitted, 20 lights all wired but not connected up yet, no time today, goin out for tea so have to start gettin spruced up, suns down behind the houses anyway so its gettin cold 🙂

So, been to scroofix and got a new outside tap and wall plate, and a ball valve for draining it down for winter. And a new stop tap to replace the one I fitted today - just in case - it will only add two minutes to the job. Back on the tools tomorrow.

I nearly came a cropper in mine in the Dales. Going down into a little village, quite a steep slope but not too bad, with an S bend at the end where it flattened out. I was in low range 1st, or maybe second. There was snow and probably ice under that. Where the S bend was there was a stream or summat.
Anyway it got extremely out of shape and I was so busy spinning the wheel that I couldn't take a hand off it to shove it in neutral so I shouted at W to do it. Once she did that it instantly came back under control. The equivalent of stamping on the clutch in a manual.
Lesson learned.
I have yet to use HDC and this event still doesn't inspire me with confidence to try it.
So were you conscious of traction control working? Mine comes on from time to time, but when I wanted it a while back it would have meant revving it more than I wanted too and then probably tearing up the grass below the wheels, which would not have been welcome seeing as how I was just off a footpath behind my house. Towing some mates out from where their tratter and trailer with a chipper on it had got stuck!
It s quite amazing the effect that airing down has.
I once watched a very sad thing on TV where an Ozzie couple went out into the bush and got stuck. The wife tried to walk out to get help taking lots of water with her but died. Her husband was eventually spotted where he had stayed with the truck which had got stuck in soft sand.
The mech who came out to get the truck simply aired it down and drove it out.:(:(:(

Done my little bit o plumberin.
Finally managed to get the gate valve to work that caused all these flipping problems in the first place.
But the pump is well fubar and the motorised valve has needed changing for quite a while, the noise it makes during the night is very annoying, so no probs there.
Discovered a big weep, or a small leak, where the bathroom fitter a few years back fitted a power shower. He took the hot feed directly from the tank via a flange and stuff. It is leaking from the flange.
So as its a 47mm AF flange, and I don't want to take yet more of the insulation off the tank to tighten it, I have emailed t'plumber to do this as well, with a few pics.
I've offered to help him speed the jobs up by my draining the system down sufficient to change the pump. He's coming at 8 a.m. So that'll mean a very early start!
At least I have managed to modify the "tails" for the sink in the utility, well, a bit. Still got to position, mark and drill the holes in the back of the cupboard for them.
