Afternoon folks:).

Been over at friends house today doing wiring, yep am allowed to do that here:p. I ran wires a while ago.
So today managed to get the Fusebox in and all wired up except the feed to the outside building. Switch on the wall for the Immersion heater and 1 socket.
So its lights tomorrow and a second socket, then see if I got it right and connect to the main fusebox;).

It has been a chilly day here and think the temps have sure taken a turn. But got the flames going in the big box in the corner so we are cosy:). Hope everybody else is.
We are going Veggie tonight, Cauliflower cheese with beans, Love it.

It’s a ring but each socket is a spur. But they normally run it horizontally around the room just below the ceiling with junction boxes , not in our house.
But (the bit I hate) neutral and earth are the same, some don’t even run earths to outlets.
There just isn’t room in the socket boxes for a full ring, well there is (I did it to start with) but it’s so tight and hard I gave up.

Today was basically 2 outlets on single wires to 1 fuse. Immersion to its own, lights on a ring as we have UK light roses we brought over (yep they don’t have them here)

Really I didnt know that, not a job I fancy tbh my uncle was a copper & got stabbed with a syringe.
One of the many things that happened to him. Stuff that job.
Our eldest grand daughter was a student doing a degree to become a mental health nurse. She was doing a work placement in Hull jail. Where she got stabbed. She jacked it in as she felt she didn't get any support over it. Too many emergency service peeps get ill treated. Sucks.:mad:

Funny how electrics are so different in different countries. Frog electrics isn't too bad. They don't do rings either.

I don't know about anyone else but I am always appalled that in all American films the only lighting they seem to have in any room is standard lamps, table lamps and really poor lighting. It's like living in a cave.
The British ring-system for lighting and for mains power is so infinitely better IMHO.
Just look at the standard UK 3-pin mains plug and socket........it is a masterpiece of safety engineering.
Even if I lived abroad in a foreign place I would apply the English system in my private dwelling because...well, it's just so much better.

I agree totally about typical 3 pin plugs with switches, French ones don't have switches, and of course the fuses in the plugs which French ones don't have either. I have a couple in our place, one in the understairs cupboard as the alarm is Brit and needed a Brit 2 pin plug and what I have modified the system to in the cabling for the pool equipment, pump etc. I have shown Brit plugs and sockets to French peeps. They all approve and agree they are much safer.

As for ring mains, I am not sure they are safer, they do mean that the power that gets to each plug is much the same, but that seems to be about it. But then I'm not a pro sparky. Each spur has its own separate RCD and it is really good to be able to isolate stuff easier than I can in the UK. Our consumer unit is an absolute bank of RCDs.

One thing though. If you wired a French house to Brit standards, even if you only used the plugs and sockets, you'd be taking a risk when it came to insurance which is why we have kept it more or less as standard.
