Although you are the same age as me I have to assume you got on the housing ladder before me. First place a 2 up 2 down. end of terrace on Canford Heath. Originally built for the council but they never took them on. Single garage in a block. But our area has always been expensive. I was about 29 when we bought it for £23k, in about 1984 again on a 100% mortgage guaranteed by no one. We didn't get a semi until a year or two later. ;)

Yes, we bought that house in 1975 when we were 21 years of age.
We sold it in 1980 for £16,995 and bought a detached house (also on Canvey) for £30k.
Then it all went Pete Tong when I moved to Stroud in Glos. Missus didn't like it down there so we moved back to Essex. Couldn't afford much then as the prices down here had gone crazy. Had 5 houses in UK and 3 rentals in California. This one we are in now we bought as a probate sale for £90k (it was a wreck) in 1990; and the average price in this street is around 500k now so it has come good I suppose. :)

Why not?
It was recommended that that MFI wardrobe was screwed to the wall to give it more stability. We didn't do it, it was so heavy it was OK.
So that is another idea.
The inner parts of the built in wardrobes that I have built, with shelves and drawers etc ARE screwed to the walls. As they have no back boards. All have sliding doors and two out of the three in this house have one mirrored door. As they are floor to ceiling all have one high shelf going the full width and obvs hanging rails of different heights to suit both of us. I bought the interior bits mostly as a kit but I think the shelves may have been bought as wood-look, melamine-faced type stuff from B&Q.

(We have pine wardrobes in the two guest bedrooms in Frogland, one is a triple and another one on the top landing for linen. The two guest ones have drawers and shelves. The main bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe and fitting that out was fun!)

From looking at the pic's it seems to be built from 4 corner posts wiv thin timber between them. Eye is a bit put oft by some of the review comments so may buy 1 wardrobe and 1 chest o draws and see. If they is good eye will get 2 or 3 more of each. Eye could line the inside of the two sides wiv mdf to strengthen them fer shelfs.

I know the area around Stroud quite well. Funny to think that you once lived in what is now such a posh area, when I knew it it wasn't posh either. Can't remember who was the first person who moved to the Cotwolds or bought property there which set the ball rolling. Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen? The King ? Princess Anne?
Our house in Bath that we lived in when I was a kid is now worth about£1.25 mill, but when my parents bought it in 1963 they paid £3k.

She was bossy and a control freak, but not particularly grumpy. She got grumpy later on in her life,
If anything I was the grumpy one. The Humanities Faculty's nickname for us was "Beauty and the Beast" and I wasn't "Beauty", ;)🤣.
After we split up and I met W, I became so much the opposite, they had to change our handles. 🤣
And when she became Head of Faculty, her nicknames from all of my colleagues became unprintable on here! 🤣🤣🤣
