Interesting. The French do something similar - they plant flowers on the ridge of their thatched roofs to stop the witches landing.They were used as peeps thought they would keep witches from walking up the stairs.

On Guernsey, it’s common to see a projecting stone high on the chimney stack of older buildings. It’s placed there so that witches have a place to rest and won’t place a curse on the house.Interesting. There is one thatched roof that I know about, a few miles from here I do like the look of them. When I showed my
good lady she wanted one.

Hey up ya'll, dry here party later. Got wee bits of stainless steel trim to do on the kitchen & make a new loft hatch surround
from the left over kitchen bits (so it matches) as it annoys me.
You wouldnt have noticed the hatch if I hadnt blootered the wall down between the kitchen n living room.

I fort you was putting em in your garridges doors?!Todays freebee is a belter of a big brass port hole & a solid teak door & a couple of teak door frames & facings.
(door will fit nicely on my shed)
Got a couple of smaller brass port holes but very heavy still with a bit of steel plate attached if anyone wants one.

Cant bring more than ten bags he says, need a permit off the council
I've got eleven so I'll just drop ten off then.
No he says, have to take them away

No he says cause you'll come again with the other one an I'll know you've been before

To save anyone who wants to understand this, I'll translate the importan bit. And shorten it!
Made up of earth planted with irises and houseleek (yes, I've never heard of it either but the name seems to point something out!) after having held the crest of the roof with a bed of cement. This plante was said to prevent lightning and other forms of fire from "striking" the roof. In fact the root sustem helps keep the earth in place while the irises "pump away" excess water.

Aaargh! don't do it!!!There is one thatched roof that I know about, a few miles from here I do like the look of them. When I showed my

We have lots of "mud huts with straw roofs round ours." I also had a colleague who lived in one and eldest dottir now lives in a brick one. The colleague said he regretted it very quickly.
The blasted thatch needs replacing or redoing every 20 years, which is very expensive, the thatch harbours lots of insects and other creepy-crawlies, you can only see it when you are outside, so what is the point?
Another friend's father had his burn down, completely, because they had fitted a logburner following all the regs. The roof just got so hot it caught fire. The only good thing to come out of it was that the regs were rewritten.
When I first met W she also wanted one and there were loads to choose from. So we went and looked at a few.
She quickly recognised that it was better to buy a house opposite one so you could see it, than buy one yourself.

Looked on line and the only limit is 'small amounts' so cant contest it really

The village apéro last night was fun, nothing like free booze, is there, @kevstar !!!
Well, having removed the bonnet, the trim panel and the mess of a windscreen-wiper mech, I put the bonnet sort of back on, (second release holding the fron it place the back two corners resting on cardboard) then put a plastic table cloth over the front of the roof and the screen, trapped in the doors, with part of it sitting on the bonnet.
We weren't expecting rain during the night but I just wanted to save myself a bit of a job first thing this morning.
During the night we had thunder, lightning and a (probably quite short) downpour. So this a.m. I had a look, water had gathered in a pool inside the back of the bonnet, fortunately it hadn't gone down the hole where the w/w motor normally sits. But I could hear an ominous "drip drip drip" coming from under the offside wheel arch.
I managed to tip the water out and had a butchers in the area, a bit of water had got in, prolly running under the cloth but the cardboard I had spiked onto the 4 bolts sticking up had stopped it going into the 'ole!
Still drizzling.

Do you have another dump you could go to? We are lucky in that we can go to one of two. The other one we'd have to show proof of address but we could still use it.
