Not fun.
So that'll be next on the "fix me" list, for when it stops raining.
Thank the lord we have 2 cars over here, especailly as we are going to a jazz concert tonight 50 minutes away.
Have a good one folks!:):):)

If they closed private schools today, more kids would go to normal schools tomorrow. The sovs per pupil would not rise. The gov and council would not give over more sovs. Class sizes would rise. So normal schools would be worse oft.
You are missing the point, if schools had more money cos of more pupils they then would employ more teachers, therefore no need for class sizes to rise. MOST of a school's budget goes on teachers' salaries.
The school I worked in had 1000 pupils when I started, class sizes were fine and we could teach a wide range of subjects, as the population rose it went up to 1600, the only problem was building more classrooms but that was OK, and again lots of staff, class sizes OK and an even wider range of subjects could be taught. Then the population fell, a few other bad things happened and the number on roll dropped to about 800. Staff were made redundant and the range of subjects taught dropped. At one point we only had 2 Spanish teachers and 1 and 1/2 French teachers, whereas when I started we had 2 German teachers both of whom taught a bit of French and 4 1/2 French teachers. (This happened a short while after I retired.

But much more importantly, if MPs couldn't send their kids to private schools they would want the schools their kids were in to be better, so much more would be done to improve education as whole. Whether that meant paying teachers more so that better peeps joined the profession, fixing the falling-down schools, of which there are loads, or whatever.

At the4 moment the profession and the buildings are in crisis, but the fee paying barstaff don't give a sausage as it doesn't directly affect them.

There ain't a plan to put more money into normal schools if fewer go to private schools. They're avoiding committing any additional increase in kids means a school auto gets more money. The plan to increase teachers is 1/3 per school. They ain't confirmed if schools can pick the lower, middle or top part of a 1/3 of a teacher they get. The money for that is said to be funded. Can't remember where from. Tis typical of the election. Light on policy and detail. Dun't upset the tratter shorry apple cart.

Eatlier me squirrel was on me slabs looking around fer food. Ah wun't ready so had to go un gerra nut then unlock me patio door. He backed away burreye crouched down. Opened the door a little bit and dropped a nut oot the shut it. He were cautious but came forward. Got the nut. Climbed me fence and sat on top looking at me. Then climbed down t'other side. Eye were quite pleased wiv that. Fink he were the big one. Little one came later but he shot oft when eye opened said door.

According to what they said here:
They will be putting 6,500 more teachers into schools.
According to this
you can work out how many schools there are in the UK.
If you take 32,163 as being the total number of schools, (I haven't got the time at the mo to remove the number of private schools and mess about) then 32,163 /6500 = 4.95. So nearly 5 more teachers per school, not 1/3 of a teacher.
so I don't know where you got that from.

There is much more here to read but frankly I'd rather not continue this on this thread, it belongs far more in the other threads on AG.
So I apologise to all of those who don't want to read about education. ;)
EDITED
I was in a hurry to go out so the sum was upside down.
Should a been .2 of a teacher per school.

Its 6,500 new teachers into 20,000 schools. 20/6.5= about a furd.
There's a lot of headline news in the manifestos but little detail on funding. When yer compare to past elections the headline news is now just wispers. Nowt bold and new. Just talk of what could be done, with little mention if funding. The IFS backed this up with their review. They're not going to attempt to put the money back that has been cut since 2008. We is skint. We got over the financial crisis then the walrus gorrus. Then br*xit hit.

But then eye realised its buying an advantage for yer kid because yer got the sovs to do it. That makes it unfair.

You can’t say it is gonna be bad, if you don’t encourage/agree with paying to keep kids in education elsewhere :vb-confused2:

Eye dun't fink money should buy yer privileged education. We should all have a fair start int life and education. Burrif they close private schools they must put in the sovs to fund more peeps in normal schools. Same for the tax on private schools. If some drop oot they need to plan on funding them int normal schools. One plan is to wait a bit as number of births fell previously, so won't be long till school age peep numbers start to fall anorl. That will save them having to fund some of the education bill.

Don't disagree but he still hadn't got, at least by this post of his, that more kids equals more teachers cos schools are paid, per pupil, and the extra money goes to pay for more teachers unless they are so overstaffed that they can spend the money on rebuilding the falling down bits, or other stuff they need. And being overstaffed is poppycock.

We've been out for a longish time, listening to jazz on a sunny evening in the courtyard of a chateau, that also makes wine, so we had free wine and nibbles afterwards.
Very nice.

so I'm suprised to come back and find no one else has posted off this last topic!

so here is something.
We couldn't find the place so W managed to use Google maps on my mobile, which got us there just in time.
I tried, failed and nearly threw the blamed thing out of the window. Got to the place on the map, clicked on "directions" and nothing flipping happened, twice!
Boy did she crow!!!:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
