So, re the kids yesdi, wasn't awful, I remembered a big box of seventies lego in the loft which went down surprisingly well.
Anyway, got some Mars choc ices for desserts. Youngest one looks at it sideways..
"Hmmm, could be bigger"
In a moment the missus has taken it out of his hand and bitten it in half.
'There you go, you ungrateful little git, is even smaller now!'

You should have seen his face, I had to leave the room. Ole skool parenting at it's best...
I totally lost it on the ROFL front at that! 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
My kind of "tough love" all the way!!!

And weirdly all the kids I taught and all my grandkids really preferred to know where they stood with me. There is nothing wrong with tough love!

Good on Her 😒😒

I always have mine set on mulch to far to walk to empty it
My big three wheeled wheed whacker/mulcher unfortunately cuts everything and then mulches it. So, as I posted above, the weeds thrive while what grass there is dies.
My son in law who is deputy head greenkeeper on a double championship golf course explained why that is the wrong thing to do.

Weeds grow from above so continuously mowing them eventually kills them, but grass grows from below so mowing it does no harm at all. BUT you do have to remove the clippings.

If I could be assed to take an old blade and grind off the top bits that do the mulching, leaving just the cutting blade it would be OK, provided I could be assed to then rake up all the stuff I had just cut.
If I was 10 years younger I might just do that!

Peeps have been telling me the cuttings contain goodness that should be returned to the soil. So leave cuttings on top.
I can see why they say that, but the guy advising me has all sorts of horticultural qualifications and spends all day basically working with grass with some immensely expensive machinery. If he does his job wrong he is in deep doo-doo. So I think he knows what he is talking about.

TBH it depends on the time of the season, the length of the grass and all sorts of other factors. There will be times when it is good to leave the cuttings on top. Also the quality of the soil is important. Ours is rich as flip and anything planted grows like mad. We also have a lot of springs and underground streams so we never need to water.

Green keeping is a lifetime's work!
