It'd be brill if kitchens all came standard sizes and walls could be guaranteed to be parallel.
When I did our kitchen I had to lose 1 or 2 mm off each of three units to get them to fit along the wall under the window, together with the built in dishwasher. The doors were of the sort you couldn't trim down, so I had to work with the allowance allowed on the units. So of course I could only use the pukka fittings one on side each time. And I had to modify the backs of quite a lot as I was extending the ring main etc. We also went for a lot of drawers as both W and I have back problems. I bet those don't come already made up!
Despite all that, what with the "magic" corner unit where you pull open a door and it swings open and out while another slides into view and other stuff, I quite enjoyed it. And it sure is easier to work with.

They have a full range of units you can choose from the list of sizes/styles & they make what you want, the 3d planner is superb
I really enjoyed using that. :cool:

It looks a bit like the size of the one that my ex s-i-l built for his family before he and his wife split up! It was going to be their forever house.
His had 250 sq metres. whats the sq meterage on that one?
His was over three floors. Not two and a loft with skylights.
It went for a mill when he eventually sold it, mind he had a load of land with it, on the edge of the New Forest. Such a shame.:(

Think it's a bit rich you being on the hook cos you had a bit of damp. You could just have fixed the damp and put the old one back.
If a new kitching is what you give her for Easter wot on erf do you give her for Xmas???!!! :eek: :eek: :eek:

When we got the B and Q kitching for Frogland the blokey sat down with his pooter and we planned it all together. Only had to reduce the width of one cupboard and drawer front, I did it to the one next to the cooker where we keep the gas tank. It looks like a cupboard door and drawer front but in fact they are both connected. Got the son in law, as he was then to reduce the width of the door as I didn't have the tooling to do it, although I did the drawer front. I think it lost about 10 cms. Looks dead right. Easier though as it is solid wood.

For the kitching here the Wickes blokey did it with his pooter, but again the walls lack of parallel meant what I mentioned above!

Tbh if I had measured the parallelism properly I doubt it would have been better, in fact I am sure there would have been a gap we wouldn't have wanted. All good fun!!
What worktops are you going with?

I could have but I know she would like a new kitchen, I heard her talking to the neighbour today saying she mentioned to
me that she hinted about getting a new kitchen at some & she woke up to some sort of building work getting done & id ripped
the kitchen out on a Sunday morning n said morning luv have you lost a quid down the back of there. 🤣🤣

Holy 💩, that’s outrageous to spend that kind of money , still keeps people in work, lol

Bet it made u very nervous fitting it , never forget watching a kitchen fitter drill through a Corian worktop which was around 3 x metres long and somehow the diamond core drill slipped and ruined it, it had a return section already glued , must have been around 5k just for that piece

Think the most expensive kitchen ive seen was around 50-60k , they also had a wood flooring made up of sections, similar to the picture

There was also another one that was Lino but u could make up designs, they glued the sections together, for the life of me I can’t rember the name

Have also been impressed seeing underfloor slab systems being installed under driveways , that was mainly in the states

Got some marble tops to chop up, I did want to make some purple heart wood tops but it would take a lot of care to keep it nice.

Plus 1 to that , in the days when I was fit and well I fitted a kitchen in my old house I messed up a worktop using a router to join the L style worktop, but in comparison a new bit of worktop was £100

Indeed found it very stressful where none of the corners were 90 degrees along with messing around scribing the back so the worktop sat back nicely against the wall, don’t mind admitting took me days / weeks getting all of it just right

Oh and had to rip out all the old floor joists because many were rotten , along with removing the old lathe and plaster ceiling, double pieces of plasterboard for fire regs making it around 15mm -18mm and then plastering them

Apologises as I’m boring everyone now, lol

We really love our black granite ones in Frogland and the contrast with the light coloured wood. Can't remember but I think it is birch.
i totally agree about wooden worktops. They are fab provided you have "staff" to look after them!!! 🤣 🤣 🤣

There is a place not too far from us over there where they dig marble out of the ground. To the extent that the pavements are marble! St Pons de Thomieres.
